I can't believe we are doing this. This is crazy. Sure, it'll save Alice, but this is simply crazy. I wonder how Alice is doing right now. I hope she's alright. That Hugo guy better be helping her. I've never even met him and he's the only one by her side. I wish I was there with her. I set my packed bag on my bed. This is crazy. I grab two water bottles and jog to the kitchen and fill them with water and ice. I grab my black watch that says 4:13 am and wrap it around my right wrist. I had told my mom that we have to leave early and that it will be about a week and gave her Tara's number saying it was the school's number. I hate lying. It makes me feel sick inside. I grab my favorite blanket and stuff it into my one bag for this crazy adventure.

I walk out of my room with my huge backpack on my back. I have a written note in my hand that reads, Left already. Didn't want to wake you. Love you. I'll be back soon. I stick the note on the fridge. They will see it. I see a small family portrait and take it, stuffing it into my bag silently. I open the front door silently and run out into the dark morning. First, I have to go to Milo's house and pick him up. My breath is visible as it steams out of my mouth and up into the dark sky. I walk along the roads, hoping I don't meet any royal guards along my way. No one is allowed to be outside until six in the morning and everyone should be inside by ten at night. I'm not sure what happens when you are caught, but I don't want to find out. It's a few minutes until I finally reach Milo's house. I use my secret and force air to push me up to Milo's window which I knock on. A sleepy face with messy hair comes to the window.

"Milo?" I whisper angrily, "Are you even ready?"

I can see Milo whispering that he is ready, but it sure doesn't look like he is. The face disappears and I float back down to the ground. A few minutes of sitting behind a bush later, Milo tiptoes out the door with a large bag on his shoulders. I can tell he simply threw on his clothes because they are still halfway on. I step out of the bushes and walk with him down the road to the forest where we are supposed to meet the rest of the gang.

"Were you sleeping when I came to get you?" I ask Milo as we walk along in the dark.

"Well yeah, it was, like, four thirty in the morning," Milo complains.

"But it was part of the plan," I state quietly.

"Yeah whatever," Milo says, ending the conversation roughly.

"What's up with you?" I ask with disappointing eyes and a harsh tone.

"Just drop it, Juno," Milo says, slightly louder than a whisper.

"Milo, what happened?"

"Nothing."

"Milo, you can trust me. Just tell me what happened."

"It's stupid."

"Come on man, I won't laugh or judge."

"Okay, fine. My jude died yesterday after school and I am having a really hard time about it."

I can picture her now. A small, furry animal with three large, round eyes and a wide mouth with a tiny tongue. I loved how her two ears bent when she tilted her head and the way she jumped on her four legs when she got excited. She would always cuddle in my lap but her 2-foot long tail got in the way, sometimes hitting me in the face.

"Milo, why would you think your jude dying is stupid?"

"I don't, everyone else will."

"Nobody thinks that a jude dying is stupid."

"But, if I show my feelings about this, people will think I'm weak."

"Feelings don't make you weak."
