I open my eyes slowly. Yes, Friday. One last day of excruciatingly boring school before the glorious weekend. I look around the room and immediately sit up. My stomach sinks as I realize that this is definitely not my room. I stand, wobbling slightly, and walk to the window. Outside I can see the elite square with many servants running around doing something. Although they look scattered and lost, they seem to be working on one thing. My heart sinks as I realize that I don't know when the next time I will see my dad will be. I am tired of crying so no tears fall, only a growing depression grows in my gut. I look up at the glass dome outside and see a beautiful sunrise sending dark and light red rainbows everywhere the light touches. Although it is very beautiful, I still can't smile. I turn around and suddenly see a boy curled in a ball next to where I was just sleeping. I nearly scream before I put both hands to my mouth. What is a boy doing in my room? When did he come in? Is he dead or sleeping? I walk up slowly and can hear the boy is breathing. I sigh, realizing that it would be really weird to have a dead boy lying next to me. I sit down next to him. I debate on waking him up. What if he freaks out and attacks me and I end up dead? Suddenly the boy's breathing becomes a yawn and he stretches. I freeze. He slowly opens his eyes and I suddenly know who he is.
"No way. Hugo?" I ask, amazed at what my eyes are seeing.
"Yeah, hi Alice," he replies sleepily.
"How did you... Why... But..." I can't find the right question to ask him. Hugo stops stretching and lays on his side with a hand on his hip giving me a smile.
"Wondering how I got here?" he asks like an evil mastermind wanting to tell his plan to destroy a city or something.
"Well, yeah," I answer, sitting close to him.
"Did you forget that I am a shapeshifter?" he asks with a smirk on his face. I think about that for a second and remember Hugo suddenly disappearing at school.
"Well yeah, I know but how did you get here?" I ask, still not fully understanding.
"I turned into a bracelet that was on your left hand and stayed there until the soldiers left you in this room. But you fell asleep really fast so I returned to myself and slept as well," Hugo explains as he sits up. I am so happy I jump on him a hold him tight. He hugs me back and stays silent. Suddenly there's a knock on the door that makes me jump. I look at Hugo but he's already turned into a bracelet. I take him off the floor and slide it on my wrist. The door flies open and in comes five soldiers. One of which is the soldier with a black badge. They silently grab my arms with tight grips and I go along with them. I feel safer knowing Hugo is with me, but I am still alert.
"I can walk, you know," I state, growing sore from the men grabbing me.
"We have orders to take precautions," the man with the black badge replies. I sigh in annoyance and pain.
I'm dragged through spotless halls with many different doors all leading to different places. The halls begin to get wider and much shinier and the doors begin to vanish and suddenly, there is a giant room that is five times bigger and taller than my house. I can't help but open my mouth in awe. Rainbows flash around the windows along with servants dashing around in every direction and, at the end of a long red carpet, are three large chairs and in them are the elite leaders. My eyes are wide and I nearly faint, if it weren't for the five men holding me up. We are walking closer and closer to the three men until I feel like we are an inch away from them, however, the closest they ever let people be to the elite leaders is seven feet away from them.
Ezra sits on the right side in an outfit that initially looks like a lab coat but I quickly realize that it may be a rain jacket or even a chef's clothes. His nose is not as long as everyone makes it out to be. Azai is sitting in the middle and is wearing what I assume to be a military suit. His dark black hair is starting to show a few grey hairs. Drey is on the left and wearing a grey suit with a dark blue tie. His chin and cheekbones are sharp and cast shadows under the light.
