"Can you morph out of it?" I hear Tara ask Jack.
"No," he replies, "someone has to manipulate it from the outside."
If only I had his secret. My eyes grow wide.
"I hugged you guys," I announce, amazed.
"Yes you did," Milo says looking at me like a kid looks under his bed which is infested with monsters.
"I- I think I have all of your secrets!" I exclaim with joy.
"I don't understand," Hugo states.
"I don't exactly know how, but I just have a feeling," I try to explain.
My friends look at me like I'm completely nuts.
"I'll show you," I state, grabbing Hugo's handcuffs. I close my eyes as I hold the metal. Think like the handcuffs. Feel the handcuffs. Move the handcuffs. I envision the handcuffs unlocking and falling to the ground. I hear a clinking sound as the metal falls from my hands. I open my eyes and see Hugo's free wrists next to my hands and the handcuffs laying by my feet.
"I told you guys!" I say, smiling as I jump twice out of joy.
"Can you get us out too?" Liz asks. I nod and force the handcuffs off. Once they are all off, I have to ask this question that has been bugging me for quite some time.
"What do my eyes look like?" I ask the group with excitement in my voice. Hugo comes up to me very close with the entire group behind him.
"Your eyes are splintered into- let's see- eight different colors," Hugo announces so close to me that I can feel his breath.
"What are the colors?" I ask, looking into his dark green eyes.
"Red, purple, green, blue, grey-no it's shiny silver, gold-ish, brown, and black," Hugo answers. He might as well hold my head because he is so close to me.
"Thanks," I whisper before he backs away from my face.
"Well," Tara begins, " I don't know about you guys but I want to go home."
"I do too," I admit. I turn around and see that the royals and the shadows are getting together nicely. Eli and I lock eyes and we just stare at each other. I want to glare at him but, I can see the old him I thought he was before an hour ago. But Juno's limp head flashes before my eyes, causing me to easily glare at him for a few seconds before turning back to my friends.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see a small boy cowaring in the corner of a short wall. I slowly walk up to the boy until I realize who he is.
"Cole!" I exclaim, running and kneeling down next to him as I gently grab his head checking for any damage, "What are you doing here?"
The boy stays silent and stares at me with cold eyes that are filled with fear and sadness.
"We should get you home, Cole," I state. The boy nods slowly and I pick him up gently as I stand. We walk down into the shelter of the inside of the castle and make our way down to the bottom. People are giving us confused and mixed glances but are mostly concerned about themselves. We quickly make it to Cole's room and he knocks on the door as I set him on his feet. I can hear yelling and footsteps coming closer to the door before it opens. A distraught mother and father are at the door in tears. As they see Cole standing before them, they kneel down to him and hug him tightly.
"Oh, Cole," the woman exclaims, "we were so worried about you. We heard about the shadows and we turned around and saw you get taken away by the soldiers..."
"I promise you," I begin, "your son will never be taken away from those soldiers again."
"Thank you," both parents say together. The entire group nods as we walk away. I feel a hand on my arm, stopping me in my tracks.
