Once again my eyes are open, staring up into the unfamiliar ceiling. I sit up and wait for the knock on the door. Once it comes, I walk over and pick up the paper from the Queen.
Alice,
Professor Collins has made a lot of discoveries from your blood test and he wants to do something I was not too sure of at first. He does not want me to tell you, but I know it will affect you in a certain way. So, please stay calm and do what Professor Collins asks you to do. Wear the jumpsuit in your closet for today's experiment. It will last around the same amount of time as yesterday, or more. You will be eating with us today, and I am finding you a different person to follow around the castle.
~Queen
This is too early to panic. It's much too early to cry. I just have to calm down and figure everything out one step at a time. I turn around and open the closet. The only jumpsuit in here is a black suit with blood red lines weaving around in it. I grab it and squeeze myself into it. Fits like a glove. Professor Collins must have made this out of the measurements he made while I was passed out. I still don't understand why I fell asleep.
I knock on the door three times and the door opens as usual and I turn and see Eli standing there before me.
"Feeling better?" he asks me.
"Not really," I reply, "turns out your mom is replacing you."
"She's finding someone to show you around?" Eli asks, very offended. I sigh.
"Yes," I answer with a heavy heart.
"Let's get you to Professor Collins," Eli states as he begins to walk. I follow him, keeping my head low.
"But hey, we could get married," Eli reminds me, smiling.
"Yeah," I reply, slightly glumly.
"Do you not want to?" Eli asks, stopping in his tracks.
"I'm not saying that," I reply quickly.
"No please, tell me," Eli pushes on with concerned eyes.
"Nothing, it's nothing," I state looking into his eyes.
"Alice," Eli coos, putting his hands on my shoulders, "if this marriage is going to work, you need to tell me everything."
I have to tell him. Not right now though.
"There's nothing to say," I state, forcing a smile. Eli smiles back and we continue walking. Three awkward, silent minutes pass by before we reach Professor Collins' room. I turn around to face Eli.
"We are going to Jack's tonight, right?" I whisper. Eli nods causing me to turn and knock on the door twice. The door opens and I walk in. I turn before the door closes and wave to Eli. He doesn't wave back to me for some reason.
"Alice," the professor begins, "I'm glad to see that the jumpsuit fits."
I nod.
"Still not comfortable talking to me?" he questions. I shrug, looking around the room.
"When will you be comfortable?" he asks, holding his clipboard now. I shrug again. I continue looking around and see that the room is cleared and the black chair isn't here anymore.
"Today we will be testing the results I have from your blood and then see how strong each one is," the man in the lab coat explains. I stand there awkwardly, nodding every once and a while even though I don't understand what he's saying.
