"Guys, we have to go right now," Nathan demands. I look up at Jack.
"For Juno," I whisper.
"For Juno," Jack repeats, nodding his head. He begins to move away from Juno but stops and stares at me.
"Alice your eyes," Jack says, studying my face, "they are really...colorful."
"We can't deal with your eyes right now," Milo states hastily, "Can you see Alice?"
I nod.
"Then let's go," Tara instructs loudly. I release Jack's shoulders and take one last look at Juno and see something in his pocket. I scurry quickly to his side and take a necklace from his pocket. It has a thin silver chain with a stone at the end. The stone looks as if the entire universe is held in it and was shaped like a dull, thick dagger. I wrap it around my neck and stand. Everyone is already by the door and I run to them. They are pushing as hard as they could and I join in, but it won't budge.
"Wait, guys," Hugo interrupts our pushing, "let me try."
He makes one large knock and then a softer one after that. The door flies open quickly and we run out the door to be greeted by soldiers, and they aren't too happy to see that we have escaped. The king and queen have fled the scene but I'd like to talk to them. I can hear the booming again in my head. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
"Our secrets should work now, correct?" Nathan asks. I try to block the sound and feel around for the electricity secret. Once I blink, I can see it. I quickly shoot electricity out my hands, hitting the soldiers as I suck the electricity around me back in and use it for energy. Once the soldiers are down, I run over to them and take in the electricity that is making them rattle.
"I guess so," Liz answers. She has purple lines, visible by all of us, bouncing all around her skin, ready to pounce. We continue to run down the halls; shocking or punching soldiers until they lay there unconscious. I make sure no one kills anyone, which everyone agrees to very quickly. I look out a window and see something. Is that? No, it can't be. A black mist forms growing denser and denser before my eyes. It slowly lifts its hands which are beaming with electricity.
"Run!" I yell to the group. We all sprint away from the Shadow, who I hope doesn't follow. We quickly make our way outside and stand there in dismay. Hundreds of Shadows are standing, or floating, just outside the dome. My breathing becomes short and fast. People are being forced into the castle and nearly drag us with them, but I open my wings and they all back away from us. I can hear the Shadows yelling. It's too loud so I cover my ears in hopes of blocking out the sound, but it seems to be inside my head.
"Alice are you okay?" Tara asks me. I look up at them and they aren't covering their ears. They are all wide eyed and staring at the creatures and me.
"How are you able to listen to this?" I yell over all the shrieking of Shadows yelling.
"Hear what?" Liz asks just loud enough for me to hear.
"The Shadows yelling," I explain.
"Shadows don't talk, or yell," Milo says holding my shoulders. I look back up at the Shadows. They seem to be multiplying quickly and growing larger.
"What do we do?" I ask, staring at the creatures. No one speaks, but I can tell they are all thinking, "run". Suddenly I am grabbed by soldiers all over my body. I bat my wings on them and struggle to get free. Suddenly the Shadows' yelling grows louder and louder. I look back up at the dome and watch as the Shadows all take one hand and touch the dome. The yelling turns to screaming and pierces my ears. I am unable to do anything so I yell as the pain in my head grows louder and louder until the dome explodes and dissipates into a mist. Shadows pour into the royal court and the rain the dome was keeping out, falls on us. As much as the soldiers are shaken, they drag me inside as other soldiers drag my friends inside as well. Once we are inside, they close the wooden doors to the castle with three metal doors behind it. I can hear about five clicks every time a door closes. The soldiers step back with us still in hand, as banging on the door shakes the room. The constant booming that was once in my head is back and is not in my head, but at the door. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
