My Ice Cream

I open my eyes and see that I'm laying on a couch. I sit up slowly as I rub my eyes. I look around and see that my dad is laying on the ground beside my feet. I tap on his shoulder, waking him up.

"Lay on the couch, Dad," I instruct him. He nods and sleepily stands then falls onto the fluffy pillows, falling back to sleep in seconds. I walk over to my bathroom and take a short shower. It feels so good to be clean! I walk to my room and set my robe down on my bed with Juno's necklace. I look up at the clothes that lay in my open wooden closet. I take my Mom's old white dress off a hanger and swish it over my head, covering my body. My room is exactly how I left it. I dig around in my closet for some time before crawling back out with a pair of slip-on-shoes, which I slide into. I grab my brush I have had for years which is on my bed, and smooth my hair out with a few small flicks of the wrist. I grab Juno's necklace and gently wrap it around my neck. My heart sinks a little when I remember what happened yesterday, but I quickly distract myself by getting a piece of bread. I'm just about to toast it but realize that I don't have time to toast it and get to the bus in time. I slap some butter on the bread and dash out the door silently.

Once I'm outside, I take a deep breath of fresh air into my lungs. I begin to walk as I nibble on my bread and butter. Morning dew on grass gives the illusion of stunning diamonds tossed to the ground. The sun is beginning to rise, producing a light red glow to the sky and manipulating the clouds to glow in a pink hue. I keep my mind occupied with the thought of school and the worry of what will be different.

After a few minutes of thinking to myself and finishing my breakfast, I arrive at the bus stop as the yellow big bus with yelling kids arrive. The doors open, inviting me inside. I walk in slowly with my wings tucked tightly against my back. Everyone suddenly stares at me and the bus becomes silent. I never knew it could get this silent. Even the bus driver stares in awe or shock or even terror. I tiptoe to my seat besides Nathan, who, for once, isn't invisible.

"Hey," he greets me.

"Hi," I reply softly as the bus begins to move. People slowly begin to chat once again.

"It happened to me too," Nathan admits. I laugh in confusion.

"How did your parents take to news?" I ask the boy in the neighboring chair.

"They didn't care," Nathan states looking at the back of the chair ahead of him.

"What do you mean?" I ask, very suspicious of his story.

"They were so wrapped up in the money we received and how I was safe at home, that they didn't care that I lied to them and risked my life," Nathan explains.

"Money?"

"Yeah, the king and queen of Tariua sent around a fifty hundred thousand dollars to us."

"Why?"

"The note said it was because of my intelligence in helping bring peace between two enemies. It was even sent by a shadow."

"Wow."

"Do you get one?"

"No."

"Oh, well you will. Don't worry."

The bus ride seems longer than usual and very uneasy. Suddenly, the red headed kid steps into the bus and walks up to Nathan.

"I want to say I'm sorry for bullying you," the boy says in a shaky voice, "I hope you forgive me. And you guys are awesome."

Nathan and I look at each other with confused eyes.

"Um, thanks?" Nathan replies in a confused voice as he turns to the boy. The boy nods before walking to the back of the bus.
