as you turned off the bathroom light, darkness engulfed you. your eyes weren't used to the dark yet as you had just spent some minutes inside the brightly lit bathroom and you needed to keep one of your hands on the wall while you stretched the other out in front of you to make sure you won't bump into anything.
as you turned around the corner, there was a faint slimmer of light coming from underneath your roommate's door. it was just enough for you to be able to see the doorknob on the door to your own room, which you entered and immediately threw yourself over the bed.
you had already been sleeping, but woke up in the middle of the night and went to the bathroom. even though you had already managed to get at least a solid three or four hours of sleep, your roommate must've still been wide awake and it was almost morning.
you got used to it, though. you came to learn that c/n preferred to work during the night time and catch up on sleep during the night. he was a night owl whereas you loved to enjoy a good night's sleep. well, as long as he was keeping quiet, you didn't mind at all.
you cuddled up in your blanket as you were in your bed again and rolled over to your side, closing your eyes. yawning, you could still see the faint thin line of light you looked at in the hallway outside of your room coming from c/n's room engraved on your eyelids. but soon enough, darkness wrapped around you along with sleep and dreams.
well, that was until you woke up to a soft spoken voice calling your name gently, "y/n. y/n, wake up."
a hand placed itself upon your shoulder and shook you carefully.
"what?" you groaned with your face buried in the pillow. you could recognize the voice as your roommate's, but you had no idea why in the world he thought it was a good idea to wake you up at this unseemly time. "what time is it, even?" you rubbed your eyes when he repeated his request for you to wake up.
"it's four in the morning," he was quick to reply. "doesn't matter, though. i need to tell you something." his voice showed no signs of exhaustion of tiredness, whereas it took your whole willpower to even open your mouth when you wanted to say something.
"can't it wait? i'm tired," you mumbled, the words lazily rolling out from your throat.
"just scoot over. i really need to say it now." he ushered you to the side of the bed and he sat on the edge of the other side. "if i won't say it now, i probably never will," he admitted.
ugh. "fine," you agreed at last, as the urgency in his voice seemed too real to be faked. but what could've been so important to him? he had never woken you up before to talk - to do anything - as he knew you rather chose to sleep then to pull an all nighter.
"okay, so," he sighed deeply. there was just enough moonlight in the room for you to see him playing with his fingers and looking down at his feet. "honestly, i don't really know how to say it-"
"can you make it quick, at least?" you interrupted him, a yawn threatening to escape your mouth. "i really, really, really wanna go back to sleep."
sure, it was the weekend so you didn't have to be fresh and ready by eight in the morning, but you still fancied having no eye bags and getting your beauty sleep.
"i- i'm gonna try. look, sorry, i don't want to keep you awake like this, but i've just been thinking a lot this whole evening and i couldn't sleep at all and i- i-" he searched for the right words.
you tried to keep your eyes open as much as you could while listening to his nervous ramble, but it was hard as they felt as if they had been glued together and you had trouble keeping your eyes fully opened.
"okay. so, as i said, i've thought a lot today and i've decided that i need to shoot my chance now or never," he said firmly, turning his back to look at you for a second. then he turned back around, his gaze on your room's door.
he took a few deep breaths as you scooted closer to him, reaching out your arm to place it on his back comfortingly. "you don't have to be afraid. just say whatever it is on your mind," you encouraged, still sleepy but much more curious.
the night was beginning to make way for the day, the sky a tone lighter than before, illuminating c/n in an almost silverly light. his hair, messy as he ran his fingers through it multiple times, shone. he turned back around and his eyes glittered as if the stars themselves had been placed inside. his lovely lips were pressed together nervously, expectantly.
you began to get even more curious, making you more awake. suddenly, it wasn't hard to keep your eyes open and you felt your heart start to beat faster.
you sat up. "c'mon, you've already woken me up and got me wide awake," you pressed when he still wasn't saying anything, only staring at you with those glittery e/c eyes.
his face looked angelic in the faint light of the retreating moon, he didn't look pale as a ghost as one would think him to look after not sleeping for such a long time - he looked as good as ever, hair sticking up in all directions only made him more adorable. honestly, you couldn't think of a time when he would not look good, anyway.
"i love you, y/n," he said in a breath. "i love you and i needed to tell you because the 'what ifs' are killing me. i needed to tell you because i need to know your answer." he plopped down, covering his face with his hands.
the moon gave way to the sun and as it rose, orange light spilled inside your room, casting a glow upon c/n.
he looked golden. he was golden.
from behind him, you scattered ever closer until your chest touched his back every time you took a breath and leaned his head against his shoulder, sneaking your arms around him. a wide, huge grin spread on your face after hearing his confession. you were sure he could feel your heart beating rapidly against your ribcage you as pressed your body to his.
his hands found yours and squeezed them. "what does this mean?" he asked timidly, full of hope and fear.
"it means yes," you muttered, sighing contently as his warmth seeped onto your skin. "i love you too, c/n."
his breath hitched when you said those words. he turned around and embraced you properly.
the immediate rush of happiness and adrenaline you felt mere seconds ago retreated and got replaced by tiredness again. having your heart beat so fast and your mouth smile so widely was exhausting.
exhausting in the best way possible. still, you muttered, "let's go to sleep now, though."
c/n laughed when you yawned and made sure he can stay by your side with a question, to which you just pulled him down without bothering to answer.
he ran his fingers through your hair and you were sure you fell asleep much sooner than him, since he, after all, only went to sleep when the sun was halfway up the sky already.
when you woke up, though, you were met with the most beautiful sight of his face in front of yours, eyes closed and lips in a soft smile as c/n dreamed, finally sleeping soundly without any fears or doubts weighting him down.
you pecked his cheek lightly. this was better than any dream you could've dreamt of had he not woken you up.
