"hey, y/n, guess what i got?" c/n wiggled his eyebrows at you as he entered your room of the shared flat without bothering to even knock. you were used to it already, though, and made sure to lock it anytime you were changing to avoid weird situations happening. right now you were sitting at your desk, watching videos on your computer instead of working (which you planned at first, but the temptation was just too strong). as he came in, you looked up to face him, face illuminated by screen light.
"your balls back?" you replied, uninterested with whatever shit he'd got and willing him with your eyes to go away so that you could resume your video.
his smile faltered, but didn't stop him. "what do you mean 'back'?" he asked, offended. then shook his head, "and no, that's not what i got. i got this super duper amazing new videogame!" he rattled the plastic bag he was holding high in the air, back to grinning widely.
"cool?"
he sighed at your lack of enthusiasm. "you obviously don't know the masterpiece even if it's right in front of your eyes."
"sorry i'm not a nerd," you shrugged. your knowledge of videogames consisted of just dance and... well, that was where it ended, too.
he gasped, acting overly dramatic as he stretched his hand against the doorframe for support. "am i asking for too much when i just want you to be excited with me?'
"sorry, but you know i have around zero interest in videogames. what did you expect?'
"i expected you to be a friend who shares my happiness simply without any reason. but no, you have to ruin it all. now i don't even think i wanna play anymore," he frowned, the plastic bag dangling from the hand kept by his side.
"i said i was sorry."
"but what's done is done." he looked back and forth between you and the bew videogame in the plastic bag, lips pursued in a disappointed grimace. suddenly his face lit up. "hey, but you know what you can do to repay me?"
"what?"
"play it with me."
you looked him dead in the eyes.
"well, it is a game for two so i need one more player if i want to play, and you're the only one-"
"so you were just tryna guilt trip me into playing this whole time?" he had no time to react to your flying slipper and it hit him right on the chest.
"ouch!" he yelled even though you were sure it couldn't have hurt that much, and rubbed his chest with his free hand. "but, will you?" he asked after a moment of silence.
geez, he looked like a puppy asking for treats when he was looking at you like that.
"...okay," you gave in.
"perfect! i'll set up the space in five!"
you minimalized the tab with the resumed video, promising to watch it later as you left your room to occupy the living room, where he was installing the game to the tv already.
"make yourself useful and get some snacks while i prep this up, will you?" he teased, setting the two controllers on the small table in front of the couch and getting a few pillows from the couch, placing them on the floor right in front of the tv.
you mumbled to yourself about how annoying he was while shuffling around in the pantry for some (fav/snacks). you got a bowl from the kitchen and returned back to the living room to find him already seated on one of the pillows, with his back leaned against the small table, sitting directly in front of the tv. the game was already on and he had his controller in his hand, waiting for you to join him.
you set the bowl down in front of you and mirrored him, sitting on one pillow and placing the other behind your back so that the edge of the table wouldn't cut into it as you leaned back, taking the second controller.
"so, how do i control this thing?" you waved the controller in the air.
he shuffled closer on his butt until his shoulder pressed against yours and reached out his hand, pointing at buttons and explaining what they do. "don't worry, you'll get it as we play," he assured you and, without moving away to where he originally was but rather staying right next to you without any space between you, smashed that play button.
"hey, but what's even the point of this-" you yelled as you had no idea what to do in the game, suddenly just playing as a character in a fictional world. you tried to move forward. you bumped into c/n's character.
"watch out, will you? we're partners, not enemies," he huffed as his character slid sideways because of yours.
"sorry! i don't know what to do!" your voice rose when there was another character coming towards you, attacking you out of nowhere. you quickly turned around and tried to run towards c/n's character. "save me! help!"
your half of the screen turned black. 'you died,' it said.
"wow, i didn't expect you to be so shit at videogames, y/n," he bluntly said. "this probably wasn't the right choice." then he proceeded to go back to the main menu of the game, switching the mode to one player (which you didn't even know there was, you thought it was just for two). "i guess i'll have to teach you another way. move." he ushered you with his hand slightly forward, closer yo the tv and you were no longer able to lean against the table.
before realizing what was happening, he sat right behind you, bringing his legs around your body as he crossed them under yours and you brought your own higher to make more space for him, so that your knees were in the air, but heels touching the floor. he brought his weight against you as he leaned closer, arms circling around yours to place his hands on top of yours, holding the controller. he put the game back on.
"see, this is how you move," he explained, his hot breath fanning your cheek as he brought his face almost on top of your shoulder in order to be able to see on the tv, and guided your fingers on the controller, slightly pushing on them when you were meant to push one of the buttons.
you hoped he couldn't feel your heartbeat through your back. it sure did feel as if your heart was pounding from one side of your body to the other. you were glad he was sitting behind you - otherwise he'd have plain view of your tomato face.
"got it now?"
his voice tore you away from your head back to reality. "uh- i think so?" you blabbered out, not really having been paying attention though.
"cool. so now we play." instead of going back to his seat, he reached out to grab the controller he left on the pillow next to you and remained seated like that, kind of hugging you but not really hugging. he hit the play button and somehow, you managed not to die in the first few seconds. actually, you managed to hold up longer than he did.
"ha! i'm better than you and it's my first time playing!" you yelled triumphantly, your previous embarrassing defeat totally forgotten, and pumped your fist in the air.
"hush it. i let you win," he protested.
"right. keep lying to yourself."
you briefly turned around before he put on a new game and caught his cheeks, even redder than yours.
BONUS:
"it got so hot in here," you said, putting a hand on c/n's knee as you stood up to open the window. it had been an hour or two since you started playing and you didn't even realize how quickly the time had gone by.
"yeah, i guess we should probably stop for now," c/n followed, standing up. the way he said it was rather forced, though.
you looked at his face, catching his eyes. "one more game?"
"one more game," he grinned, glad you caught his tone.
"okay, lemme just take this off," you said, referring to your hoodie. as you went to pull it over your head, c/n's hand brushed your skin on your stomach. he was holding your shirt to not make it slip up with your hoodie.
well, i wouldn't mind if he saw, you thought.
"what?"
no. you said that out loud???
