Gowthami
The temple festive has begun.
The competitions and night events such as dance and song performances have been going on in full swing. Since the previous night, the speakers inserted near our house have been pouring devotional songs in extreme volume. It was sort of distracting, given that I was preparing for my exams.
I didn't have the heart to ask anyone to lower the sound and tried to study while adjusting to the situation. But it was very strenuous and I couldn't concentrate properly on my books. Yet thankfully, the second examination was easy and I did it quite well.
At present, I've come back to my home after attending the said second examination, had my lunch and now I'm struggling to study for the next examination in the row which will be conducted in another two days.
Sighing a defeated breath, I grab my book and saunter down the stairs. The volume seems to dim down in the living room and as I approach the back kitchen, the song doesn't perforate as much as it does in other regions of our home. Thus, I settle myself on the stairs leading to the backyard and start to revise the problems.
While I was rotating the pen within my fingers, I saw Chanakya entering the backyard. He doesn't notice me right away but once he does so, he offers me a smile and rushes in my direction. "I was searching for you, why are you sitting here?" He questions as he seats himself on the stairs, below the one I'm reclined on.
"...the song's volume is quite high in my room," I tentatively say and he thoughtfully looks at me.
"I'll tell the operators to lower it," he responds calmly and then smiles wide. "I've to show you something! Close your eyes," noting the excitement in his eyes, I become intrigued and shut my eyelids immediately.
A few seconds later, Chanakya speaks up, "Open, now," As I hurriedly unlock my eyes, my vision lands on the terrific black sword held in Chanakya's hand. The previous one he possessed didn't have a curved end in its head portion. But this one does and it seems threatening.
Behind the sword, Chanakya's glistening eyes and wicked smile had my heart go berserk. "Ethuku ippom puthusa onnu..."(Why did you buy a new one?) His gaze travels to me in a swift motion and he begins to explain.
"Have been using the last one for almost a decade. Hence decided to acquire a new one," He shrugs casually and I merely nod towards him.
"This looks scary," I mutter as I drop the pen on my book and graze the end of the sword. All of a sudden, Chanakya retracts the sword and advances it towards me. I shriek in fear and seal my eyelids together. What is he trying to do?
The curved end of the sword hooks onto my blouse, on the center of my chest and I, comprehending his dirty intention, unlock my eyes and glare down at him. On the other hand, Chanakya has a naughty expression on his countenance as he heaves me towards him by the clutch on my blouse.
Our faces align together at his action and unexpectedly, Chanakya pecks my forehead. He then places his free hand on my cheeks and peers into my eyes, adoringly. I could feel his love oozing off him and I couldn't help but paint a smile over my lips.
"Ayo ayayo...vetta velila enna ithellam!" (What are you guys doing in public!) a panicky voice intrudes our ears causing us both to quickly distance ourselves. I was embarrassed but Chanakya was irately staring at Shakthi, who disturbed us.
"I'll go then," I say to Chanakya and stifle a smile at his reaction as I flee off the scene.
Once I reach my room, I blush speculating about Chanakya and after a few minutes, I note the volume of the songs decreasing in the speaker. It prompted me to gush over him yet again and I had to push myself to stop thinking about him and start paying attention to my studies.
