Gowthami

Marriage day✨

Adorned by numerous glimmering gold jewelry, jasmine swirled on my long braid, and a red silk saree wrapped around my body, I found myself exquisite. I was glowing, and the happiness that I felt in my heart is radiating through my countenance.

This day, I'll be Chanakyan's, entirely his, and he'll be mine, completely mine. A new phase of our life, we will be husband and wife within a few minutes.

Soulful laughter, chats, and the divine vibe engulfed me as I sat within the temple, watching the sacred flame spark in bright orange. Beside me was my Chanakya, decked in plain white silk veshti and a similar shaded shirt. We both were indulged in following the orders of the Iyer and performing the rituals properly.

The classical marriage music which is being produced by the performers was stirring a weird emotion in me. I'm happy...extremely contented to the point that everything feels surreal. I wondered If it's okay to be pleased to this extent.

I doubted whether it was a dream and glanced at Chanakya. He was focused on carrying on the rituals but noticing my eyes, he glimpsed in my direction and looked at me questioningly.

This is indeed real.

I shook my head at him and passed him a small smile before steering my attention to the sacred flame.

As the time skipped by and the moment of being hitched to my Chanakya neared, the classical flute, nadaswaram, and the thavil (a barrel-shaped percussion instrument) established intense music, deepening the divine feeling and prompted me to feel as though our marriage ceremony was happening right in the heaven itself.

The music invoked tears within my eyes and as the nuptial chain slumbering on the coconut with flowers showered around it in a tray was taken to the people to get their blessings, I gulped slightly, trying to maintain my bubbling sentiments that would burst out any seconds now.

The atmosphere screamed bliss and once every person fisted the flower petals within their hands, the tray was escorted back to the Iyer.

Chanting mantras, the Iyer gripped the nuptial chain and handled it to Chanakya. My heart exploded with delight and began to beat faster as Chanakya diverted his interest to me...

"Ketti melam!" (The music that would be played right at the moment when the groom ties the nuptial chain around the bride's neck)

As the Iyer ushered, the music intensified further and I fluttered my eyelids to keep in the tears. Chanakya was staring at me with such love and affection that it was very difficult to control myself...

He had this possessive look on his face as well...which exhibited his pride. He's got me, finally. I'm his, at last. He owns me, like I own him, now.

He then smiled as he brought the nuptial chain around my neck and started to tie the knots. The first knot squeezed my heart, pulling out a drop of tear out of my eyes and the second knot had me clench my eyes shut and the last knot, the third one, I opened my eyelids and stared at my husband, whose face was close to mine, with glassy eyes that lit up as it looked into mine...

Chanakya, my Chanakya...

The promise of a wife🤌🏼
