Nick

Walking toward the kitchen, I could hear Jules voice & heard her say Demi had a connection with him. At first I thought it was me, they were talking about, until Jules said Demi never had a connection like that with me. A sickening feeling came over me as I realized they were talking about Apollo, since Demi was supposed to meet him that day. I walked into the kitchen, trying not to show how mad I was. "Who did you feel a connection with?" I asked, scaring Demi so much that she let out a slight scream. I knew the answer to the question, but I wanted to make to hear her say it.

Demi smiled at me as if nothing was wrong. "Babe. You're home... just in time for dinner. I made your favorite..." I lifted my hand up, cutting her off. She wasn't getting out of this. She blinked a few times as she studied my face, probably trying to figure out how mad I was. Her teeth came over her bottom lip, a little.

"Who were you talking about?"

Demi looked over at Jules who had gone to sit on a stool at the counter, then a nervous laugh came out of Demi's mouth. "Joe. We were talking about Joe. You know... we have a connection because of Damon. Always will." She looked away, quickly, since she was lying through her teeth.

I crossed my arms as I stared at her, my mouth open a little. She glanced at me & I nodded my head, my lips together. "Fantastic. So now, we're lying to each other." I turned on my heel & left the kitchen to head upstairs. I needed to calm down so I figured I'd take a shower. As I got to the steps, I heard Demi come running, calling out my name. I stopped to look at her, my chest heaving from my anger.

"I'm sorry. You're right. I was lying, but it's just because I don't want you to worry. I know you're already worried about me working for Apollo, so I didn't want to make you worry even more. Yes, it was Apollo I felt a connection with. But it's not what you think."

"I'm sure it's not!" I bellowed out at her, making her flinch. I hated yelling at her & hardly ever did, honestly, but right now, I was having a hard time reeling in my feelings. I sighed, heavily, not sure of what to say, then almost ran upstairs. I got to the bedroom & slammed the door before I started pacing. It was only a few minutes of me fuming before Demi came into the room, slowly opening the door & peeking her head in to make sure it was safe. "I need to be alone, Demi." I said, not even looking in her direction.

"Please talk to me. I am so sorry I lied."

"Sorry you lied? I don't give a rat's ass that you lied, Demi. My issue is that you felt a connection with this guy upon meeting him for the first time. How the hell am I supposed to respond to that?" I stood facing her, trying to steady my breathing as my hands rested on my hips.

"I swear, Nick. It's not what you think. It's a connection like I can help him. Not like a romantic connection. I hate fighting with you. I don't want to fight. Please don't do this, Nick." Demi pleaded.

I groaned & sighed at the same time, throwing my hands up. "Don't do what? Tell you how I feel? Tell you that I don't want you working with this guy? Tell you that I am scared to death that if you work for him our marriage is going to fall apart?" My voice cracked as I fought angry tears.

"Nick." Demi was whispering, but sounded like she might cry. "Our marriage is solid. Why would it fall apart?"

I put my hands on my waist, again & shrugged. "It's a bad feeling I have. I don't know why, but I have it."

"Nothing is going to come between us." Demi walked toward me. "I promise."

"You promise? You can't make a promise like that, Demi. You're going to be taking care of this guy for months. He's bedridden for a month, but then after that he's going to be helpless once he can move. I heard Mark say he could need a nurse for several months. That's a lot of time you'll spend with this guy."
