As I watched Nick walk out the door, I felt anxious & then when I heard his car start & drive off, I felt panicked. I had laid Reese down in her bassinet, after Nick had kissed us goodbye, & now I was I leaning on it. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath then opened my eyes to look down at my daughter, who looked up at me with such trusting eyes. "This is going to be good, isn't it?" I asked, her & she just continued to stare at me. "What do you want to do sweet girl?" I asked her & laughed when she kept staring at me, like she wanted to say, 'I don't know what the fuck you're saying.' I watched my daughter, still grinning at her, as I admired her adorable outfit, my sister had gotten her. The onesie said, 'Keep walking, my daddy is taken' & it had purple striped leggings & a pink hair bow. Nick had laughed when he saw it for the first time & today when I put it on her, he rolled his eyes, then kissed me as if to say 'yes I am taken.'
I picked up Reese, after admiring her for a few more minutes, then I took her into the kitchen & put her in the highchair infant seat, Nick had set up earlier. Reese would be ready to start eating cereal within the next month, so Nick wanted to put her in the chair, once in awhile, to get her used to it. I also thought it would be good so I could keep an eye on her or talk to her while I cooked. I watched her as I made her bottles for the day & then while I made myself something to eat. Her eyes kept watching the toy that hung above her head & when she would kick her legs, she seem delighted that the movement triggered the toy to sway.
The more time I spent with Reese alone, the more confident I felt that I was going to be okay. I didn't feel overwhelmed & that felt amazing. Even when she started crying at the same time the dog started whining, I took a deep breath & picked Reese up. I held her as I put the leash on Batman, then walked to the back door & let the dog out, while I held the leash. Reese wasn't fussing now that I was holding her & once Batman did his business, I went to get a bottle for Reese.
I fed Reese & she fell asleep shortly after her bottle was finished. I laid her down in her bassinet in the living room, then went to clean a little in the kitchen. Once the kitchen was clean, I started picking up the puppy toys that had suddenly appeared in the living room. I took Batman outside again, at one point, then made myself a cup of tea.
Reese slept for two hours, bless her heart. I was so lucky because she really was an easy going baby. I changed her diaper, then sat in the rocking chair with her on my lap & started talking to her. She cooed & smiled, then I started singing, which only made her smile more. Seeing her smile made me feel incredible, because I knew she had no idea that I had harmed her in any way, just the week before.
Nick came home an hour after Reese had woke up from her nap. I was giving her a bottle & when he saw us, a huge smile erupted on his face. "There are my girls." He said in a breath as he came to sit beside me on the couch. He leaned to kiss me, then looked down at Reese, who smiled, making milk drip out of her mouth. "Did you have a good day with Mommy?" He asked in a soft, but high voice. His ran his fingers over her head then looked up at me. "You don't look frazzled, so I guess the day was good." He said, with one eyebrow up in a cocky way.
