I stood in a dimly lit corridor of sorts, heart racing as I heard the click of heels getting closer with each step. Meeting Thomas's eyes, I gave him a quick nod as they slowed to a stop, watching him as he stepped out to reveal himself to the person. As much as I wanted to, I knew I couldn't move from my out of sight spot, so I had to settle for listening to their conversation.
"Thomas..." A sharp pain flashed through my head at the sound of Teresa's surprised voice, wanting nothing more than to see the expression on her face - see if there was even any point in hoping there was still a chance she could return to us, but I stopped myself, grip tightening on the item in my hand.
"Hey, Teresa," I heard the boy say softly, and even though I knew he was playing a part my heart hurt for the pure pain in his voice.
"You shouldn't be here..." Teresa said quickly, but I could hear how ready she was to give up in her voice. After all, there was a reason she'd followed Thomas the second she'd seen him. "I-if Janson finds out you're here-"
"I'm not staying," Thomas cut in, his voice a bit quieter to me now, "It's just... I had to see you." he whispered. Even though the two were getting closer to my spot, it was getting harder to hear them as they lowered their voices with each sentence. "I had to ask you something..." Thomas went on, "do you regret it? What you did to us."
"Sometimes," I heard Teresa reply after a bit, her voice weak. "But... I did what I thought was right. And I'd do it again." I closed my eyes, almost unable to keep on listening to their conversation. I didn't want to hear any of this, but I knew I had to help the others somehow - if this was the job that I'd been given I'd bloody well do it right.
"Good." Thomas said, the determination returning to his voice as he spoke the single word. I sighed, knowing my cue as I briskly walked out of my hiding spot, quickly throwing the black bag I was holding over Teresa's head - not bothering if I was 'accidently' a bit to rough with it.
I wasn't exactly sure where we were when we were finally led into a room where Teresa was tied up and strapped to a chair, the bag being removed from her head as our whole group gathered in front of her. I took a seat behind where Newt sat, not wanting to have to deal with her in that moment. "Gally?" the girls first confused words were as she stared at the boy before her.
"Here's how is this going to go," Gally started, not bothering to reply to Teresa, "We're going to ask you some questions, and you are going to tell us exactly what we need to know. We'll start off simple - where is Minho?"
Teresa shook her head pathetically, looking at Thomas as she stuttered, "No - you guys don't really think I-"
But Gally cut her off, slamming a chair down not two feet in front of her as he sat on it. "No, don't look at him. Why are you looking at him? Look at me. He's not going to help you." Thomas turned away as Teresa gave him one last pleading look, but Gally forced her attention back onto him. "Now, we know you have Minho in the building. Where?"
Teresa looked down at her hands as she finally accepted defeat. "He's with the others in holding... Sublevel three."
"How many others?" Newt asked, causing my eyes to flit to him for a second. As much as I tried to see his hand for any more signs of the... virus inside of him getting any worse, the boy kept his arms crossed.
"Twenty eight," Teresa replied. Every one turned to look at Jorge and Brenda, who were sitting further back than the rest of us at a table, the latter absent-mindedly playing with a card as she watched us.
