The world didn't end in a bang. The world didn't end in a whisper. Instead, it ended one scream at a time.
I continued to sprint through the woods, knife in my hand. They were coming, I knew it, so did Aiden and Asher, but we continued running in the hopes of surviving. I heard a hard thud and quickly turned around, my long blonde hair crashing against my face. Asher lied on the ground; his hand holding tightly onto his ankle. His face showed nothing but pain as he closed his eyes and suppressed a scream. Aiden and I shared the same pained look. We grabbed Asher and helped him to his feet.
"Oww." Asher moaned. I looked down to his ankle and prayed that it wouldn't be anything major. Aiden and I put his arm over each of our shoulders and continued running across the forest floor. Asher was slowing us down. If we didn't hurry we'd be dead. "Ava, Aiden, go, leave me here."
"No, we won't leave you." Aiden demanded. We couldn't leave Asher behind. I couldn't leave him for the dead.
"We just have to keep going, you're going to be okay." I said, dragging Aiden and Asher with me. We didn't have time to argue, we had to get out of these woods and find a safe place and take care of Asher's ankle.
"You need to leave me!" Asher yelled. I sighed, knowing it will be the only way Aiden and I will survive. "I'm dragging you both down! And they're coming!" I began to hear the moaning of the dead getting closer and closer to us. I felt tears stinging my eyes, threatening to fall. We either leave him or die. I looked to Aiden, I usually make these types of decisions but this is Asher's life. Aiden nodded his head at me signaling we were leaving him. I unraveled his arm from me and we laid him down in the dirt. Tears were now spilling from my eyes. Through all this sadness Asher still smiled up at me. He grabbed my hand for a moment and squeezed it tight.
"I'm sorry, Asher." I told him, causing more tears to run down my face. He reached up and wiped them away.
"I love you Ava, don't ever forget that." He told me, creating a small smile on my face. This was the end of Asher Blake. He's dying for me and Aiden, he's going to be torn apart by those 'things' and there is nothing we can do anymore.
"I love you too Asher." I gave him a small kiss on the cheek. I'd never see him again. This is how I want to remember him though, with that same dopy smile he always has on his face. Asher lightly pushed me away from him.
"Don't stop running, no matter what you hear." I nodded my head. "Aiden take care of her." Was the last thing I heard Asher say before Aiden grabbed my hand and we continued running deeper and deeper into the forest. I heard Asher's violent screams and I knew what was happening. I began to turn around when Aiden grabbed my arm.
"Don't look back just keep going." He told me in a stern voice. I listened and ran alongside him listening to Asher's cries. I didn't look back but I didn't have to, to know he'll be dead soon.
