Ecclesiastes 12:7

And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Another yawn left my lips as i rub the fatigue from my eyes, even after me washing up in the toilet ace isnt awake.

I dare myself to walk over to the couch where he slept, just to see what he looks like when he isn't awake, stressing out about something. I take some slight steps over and see him laid out with his arm under his head and the other falling off the couch.

I laugh seeing how large his limbs are compared to the couch, a bit of sunlight leaks through the window blinds onto his dark skin. His large brown hair brightens in its orangey tone in the sunlight,

I'm in love.

My eyes can't rip away from his figure under his long sleeve grey shirt, my lips shrink when i feel myself blush.

Chai.

Okay thats enough eden, its sunday.

I giggle to myself shaking my head, just as im about to turn around to do some bible reading before the day starts i feel pressure on my lower back which makes me jump,

When i turn around ace's eyes are open and he is staring at me with a smirk on his face.

"You're done staring at me so soon?" He mutters and his voice is raspy as ever.

Which by the way doesn't help the already growing case of lust...

"Gbenu e soun, i was just... just seeing if you were still alive after the way you freaked out yesterday." I shrugged my shoulders but his immediate eye roll told me that he wasn't buying it.

He sat up with a groan rubbing his eyes and stretching, i wondered how one man can look so good in the morning.

"Im gonna get cleaned up-" he says standing up so theres only height between us,

His fingers grip my chin so that i look up at him,

"You better still be here when I'm out, you hear me?" He grunts lowly, i can only nod as he rubs my cheek before walking off to the bathroom.

I let the butterflies in my stomach wrestle with themselves for a moment before i grab the remote to turn on the television,

Im trying to turn my heart back to having a love for God again, i have concluded the only way of doing that is by going straight to the source.

I hear the shower running from the bathroom as the news starts playing on the television. One thing i have noticed about ace, he's an old man at heart, he watches more news than my baba

I chuckle to myself as i walk to the kitchen to get myself some water,

Im quickly distracted by the interruption music on the news station followed by a woman in a black suit and the most perfectly curled bob holding a thick microphone with ambulance sirens ringing in the background of what looks like a graphic scene behind her

"What in the-"

"And i must warn you, what you are about to see may be graphic to certain viewers." The news broadcaster exclaims with one finger stuck in her ear trying to speak over the sirens in the back.

I take slow steps over to the television as the camera pans closer to a street that looks-

That's-

Thats this street! My eyes almost explode from my head when i see the same corner shop that's right on this street.

Is this why ace didn't want me to leave last night? How did he know? Why did-

A million different questions run through my head when the camera goes behind the yellow taped scene held by some cones from end to end.

There's blood on the streets that makes my stomach curl into itself,

Two cars are smashed against each other, neither look fixable. There are bits from the car scattered all over the street and shards of glass mercilessly smashed on the concrete, a mass of smoke is still burning in the air, the whole scene is terrifying.

One man stands outside the car completely untouched, his hands over his head as he panics while a medic tries to calm him down.

The other medics cover the body of whoever is unable to get up, clearly the victim of the crash.

"The crash happened this morning, eye witnesses say that they saw a car intentionally aiming to strike the victims car, however others say it was completely accidental. Medics are still trying to identify the victim who is currently in a critical state, we will keep you updated on the status..." My hand goes to my heart, i stop breathing for a minute straight when i look closer to see the car registration...

CDG1739

No.

CDG1739

I shut my eyes tight refusing to believe-

My body jumps when i hear a phone ring without stop in the couch, my shaky hand goes to look for it before ace can hear it.

I feel faint, like there's nothing left inside of me to keep me standing, i dont even notice when my knees hit the floor,

CDG1739

I practically launch the pillows onto the floor trying to grab the phone, only to see that it's my phone. I can't breathe

6 missed calls from Serenity

9 missed calls from Serenity

12 missed calls from Serenity

The shower faucet is still running which means ace is still in the shower, and he cant help catch me when I'm falling.

CDG1739

I start to see all the places the car registration was last...

And my head only feels that much more faint,

I see CDG1739 at the african food store when he wanted to get my favourite snacks...

I see CDG1739 at my high school waiting to pick me up with a smile,

I see CDG1739 at my home...

I can still see CDG1739 on the concrete smashed so the registration is barely readable.

A breathless squeal leaves my mouth, i feel myself slipping away and dont have enough breath to call for ace,

I dont have enough strength to call for Jesus.

There is nothing but stillness when the news switches to ads and i hear the door knock.

I can hear serenity's voice yelling through the door as my ears go numb, every sound dims down as my face hits the floor.

Kicks starts to hit the door, harder and harder as she shouts on the outside.

My baba....
