I could hardly control my smiling, getting closer to the count. He however, was sweating hard, frozen on the spot. In his mind, he was begging me to stay back. The room, which was filled with laughter a minute ago, was now deadly silent as I stepped onto the dance floor. The band was waiting for their move to start their song, seeing me bow to the tall vampire.
"My count, may I have the honor to dance with you?"
He recognized the voice, not feeling well. Drac needed a lot of control not to melt away from the scene, feeling scared of Norris rage.
"Count?"
Looking at my hand, he hesitated, thinking if this is really such a good idea? Not to be rude, he placed his hand on mine; this was the cue for the band to start. I placed my hand onto his shoulder, while his went on my back, the other held my hand. Drac couldn't see my face under the mask, but to hear me giggle, he knew I enjoyed it. Slowly, more couples came to the dance floor, joining us.
"You do know how to make an entrance" I giggled once more.
His anxious face changed to a happy smile, "Well what can I say...I am a natural."
"And you are so good with women, not only that they fall for you, they even learn to fly."
Drac stopped in his tracks, "I didn't mean to...I was...I would never..." Not allowed to take the mask off, I pressed it to his lips, "I know, don't worry about it." Looking pleased, he continued his dance. I giggled again, "In case you change your mind, I have memories the entire song of 'I believe I can fly'. If I die, I want to die in style." The count smiled weakly, "You sure are an odd woman."
"And you are an unusual Vampire."
Mavis couldn't believe what just happened before her eyes. It even makes her forgive Jonny, to embarrass her father a minute ago. Her husband just held his wife in his arms, joining her on the scene, "You thing it is N/A?"
"I know it is"
He raised his brow at Mavis, "How?"
Her smile grew, "I read her mind."
"That's my wife!" he kissed her cheek, feeling really proud of the young Dracula.
Unlike Norris whose mind was already on a rampage, while from the outside he just looked a little annoyed. Laurence wasn't happy either, "I thought she would choose me tonight. I saved her from this goof, so why is she just going back to that guy? What does he have that I don't?" Norris eyes turned even darker, "Her heart Laurence, but not for long. It is time to speed up this hunt." Laurence knew the meant business, "And how are you going to do that?"
"Tomorrow is the full moon dinner. Instead of waiting for the last day, I shall announce the engagement of my daughter."
"And who is that going to be? Him?"
Norris spat, "As if! No, he will be the perfect match for her, you will see." Laurence didn't like the sound of that, excusing himself. Suddenly, he didn't feel too well anymore.
Drac and I had the time of our live.
All his fear was temporarily pulled aside, holding me closer to him. After the third dance, Jonny was close to fall asleep, "Geez, not a single romantic song came up. We need to spice up this situation."
Mavis sighted sweet, not taking her eyes of her father, "It is perfect already, no need to spice it up. Jonny?...Jonny?!" He was already sneaking over to the DJ, handing him his MP3 player, "Play that song, alright dude?" The guy stared at the thing, "Are you sure?" Jonny was sure. With thumbs up and a wink, he left him be, standing next to his wife again.
"Jonny, where were you?"
"You see" he smiled, pointing at the dance floor.
The DJ announced for everyone to take off their masks now, while the song 'How am I supposed to live without you' from Jonny's device. And indeed, it really changed the atmosphere. The couples all around us, were either flirting with another, staring into each other's eyes or were already kissing. Drac and I were at the staring part. The song made it even more intense, like it was speaking from the count's heard. Time stood still at this moment. The more we tried to resist, the stronger we held one another. Drac took the opportunity and leaned forward. Slowly, I followed his example, feeling my heart beat fast. Mavis and Jonny were also ready to scream with excitement. Placing my hand onto his neck, I pulled him lower, till we were only inches apart.
"STOP!"
Drac stopped, looking at me. I seem to be just as disappointed, looking at the one shouting. Norris walked over to us all on the dance floor, "The ball ends now! Ladies, please return to the changing rooms." Hearing them all moan out with frustration, he added, "You get your chance tomorrow night at the full moon dinner party." The entire crowd was cheering, knowing the importance of that night. It hurt Drac, as my hand left his, turning my back to the count. I had my chance and Norris blew it! I was close to tears at this point, "First his father and now mine, why is everyone getting in our way?!" Frustrated, I threw the cape into the corner and towards the kitchen. A vampire woman was scrubbing the floors on all fours. "Why are you working? It was another ball night." I looked at her, seeing her sad face, "I was responsible for the drinks the previous night and because of that, I was banned to take part at the hunt ball." I rubbed her back, as sat up, "I talked to a guy in the corridor and I forgot the time, by then, the damage was already done." I tried to cheer her up, "Don't feel bad about it, this night was rubbish anyway."
