The dinner party was arranged as follows.

All the ancient vampires were on one row of tables, opposite to my father's row. There sat I and Drac together on the left and the right were Laurence and his father. In Norris plans, it was supposed to be me and Laurence together, but Sir Camellay demanded this change. Vlad didn't mention Drac's feelings for me, just said something of us being old friends. Not sure of why I had to change my position, I liked the new arrangement. Drac felt the same way, holding my hand under the table. Beside us were the other two tables with a few more couples, ready to start the last night of the hunt ball. The rules are simple; every vampire, whenever male or female, has to announce their feeling to their partner saying what they love about another. For Norris a disaster, considering that Drac and I will do just that, his plan will be ruined.

But first, they all receive a three-course menu.

As the only human in the room, I wasn't impressed by the selection of food. However, the glare of the ancient vampires made me refuse to complain about it, keeping my mouth shut. In my mind, I was begging for some crisps or a cookie...anything eatable. Not to offend the traditions, I ate a tiny piece of a crispy scorpion and a sip of blood. If it wasn't for the hand holding mine tenderly, this would be unbearable. My father watched me just as much, hoping that I wouldn't anger the ancient vampires. He had gone through it a thousand times, explaining it over and over again till I could even say the rules in my sleep.

Next was a dance with the partner, which didn't go as I planned it.

Norris whispered something into Laurence ear, as he suddenly stood up and asked me to dance with him. I wanted to refuse, but Drac let have the first dance. Leaning over, he whispered into my ear, "I will get the next dance, right?" I nodded sweet. Taking Laurence hand, we went on the dance floor. It seems that he was just a tense as I was, not feeling too well about this situation. I had to ask him, "Laurence, something is bothering you." And indeed, it has, "Didn't you manage to get her to the dinner party?"

Oh yeah, there was something.

"I couldn't ask her, my father kept me busy during the afternoon." He sure took the rules serious. Laurence sighted, "That was my last chance N/A." A sudden idea came to my head, "hit my foot."

"Excuse me?"

"Hit my foot and make it painful."

Laurence got confused, "Why should I do that? I am not that mad at you."

"Don't ask questions, just do it"

As requested, he slammed his foot onto mine. The pain didn't take long to shot through my body, making me fall to the floor, screaming in pain. Laurence panicked, kneeling down," Sorry N/A, I didn't mean to hurt you so badly." In reach, I wrapped my arms around him, "Next step, carry me to the kitchen. They have a first aid kit there." Norris got worried, heading over at once, "N/A darling, what happened?"

"Laurence has two left feet" I laughed, begging the young vampire to pick me up. Norris saw his chance, "Laurence, bring her to the kitchen and take care of her foot. Be back in ten minutes." Drac wasn't aware of what happened, looking sad in my direction. Norris announced that the next step of the night will be in ten minutes, not giving Dracula the chance of a dance.

The kitchen staff jumped as the door slammed open.

Laurence placed me down near the fireplace, getting the first aid kit, "So, care to tell me what you are up to?"

I grinned moving my head, so he should to turn around. He froze, seeing Leona in a maid outfit. Looking back at me, his eyes widened, "Is that...?"

"It is" I assured him, gesturing him to go over to her.

The cook helped me bandage my foot, while I watched them two talking. Laurence convinced her to join us at the dinner party, but her fear of Norris worries Leona. I grabbed her shoulder, one for comfort and the other for support for my foot, "Let me handle my dad. You two enjoy yourself."

For Norris was this getting worse by the moment.

Back in the main hall, he saw Laurence and Leona holding hands. He didn't want to go that far, but he saw no other option left. Coming towards us, Leo froze on the spot. My father however, approached us with a smile, "Good you are back. Leona, are you intend to join the party?" referring to her holding hands with Laurence. She nodded uncomfortably. For this, she shall get dressed into a dress and not in a maid outfit, ordering to get changed at once. Since he is the owner and manager of the ball, she had to listen to him. Laurence and I weren't allowed to go with her and neither did Norris. He went over to his waiter, "I got a job for you. Make sure that this woman won't come into this room."

"Yes Sir."

Back at the table, he grabbed a knife and hit his glass to gain everyone's attention. As I sat back in my seat, Drac leaned over to me, "What happened on the dance floor?"

"Oh you know, the usual beginners steps. One wrong turn and you get your partners feet on your own." Looking down to my foot, he saw it all bandaged, "Is it serious?"

"Not so much, I can still walk."

As Norris cleared his throat, I closed my mouth. Norris raised his glass up and began his speech, "ladies and gentleman, this is the last night of the hunt ball and the first step, of a life with a new partner at your side. Cherish the moments and every memory off this day on, because you deserve it. Normally, you all should exchange your feelings to another, but tonight we change this part a bit."

Sir Camellay didn't seem to be pleased by this sudden change of plans, but gestured him to go on.

Norris knew, it is now or never, "I would like to tell you all the good news first. I would like you all to raise your glasses to a very special couple tonight, a toast, to my wonderful daughter...and her fiancé...Laurence."
