The third day of school went smoothly so far, though Nella didn't want to jinx herself. There were two more classes after lunch, and it was too early to declare whether it was a good day or not.

Jane slammed the locker shut when she nearly dropped the books she was carrying.

"Hey you," Nella appeared from behind Jane.

"Hey—hey, hi," Jane greeted back while trying to gain composure.

"Sorry, did I startle you?" Nella watched while Jane steadied the books on her arms.

"Oh no, no. It's okay. Kanina ka pa ba dyan?" Jane asked awkwardly.

"And just stare at you like a creep while you get some stuff out of your locker?" Nella teased.

Jane shook her head violently. "No, no, sorry. I didn't mean it like that."

Nella let out a little laugh. "I'm kidding."

Jane sighed in relief. "Oh," she let out a nervous laugh. "Are you heading to the library?"

Nella nodded. "That's where I eat my lunch."

Jane nodded with her. "I see. Hindi ba bawal kumain dun?"

Nella shook her head. "I stay hidden. And besides, the staff knows me well enough, they know I won't make a mess. I clean up after myself, I don't know about you."

Jane frowned. "Me?" She pointed at herself.

"Yeah," Nella nodded.

"I don't ever eat lunch at the library," Jane replied.

Nella nodded again. "I know you haven't. That's why I'm not sure kung papayag ka ba if I invite you to eat lunch with me there."

Somehow, Jane's heart nearly leapt out of her chest. "Today? I mean—as in now na?"

"Mhm or kung kelan ka man hindi busy," Nella replied.

Jane swallowed. "I'm never too busy to eat lunch."

Nella stared at her. "Will you be able to keep the place clean and not make a mess?" She teased.

Jane chuckled. "I'll try my hardest."

Nella nodded in approval. "Good. Kasi pag nag-kalat ka, I might have to find a different place to have my lunch. Baka i-ban na rin nila ako dun."

At the library, Nella brought Jane to her usual hangout spot. They set their stuff right next to them, and the two sat on the carpet floor with their legs crossed.

"Anong baon mo?" Nella asked while she opened her lunch bag.

"I don't usually eat lunch," Jane confessed.

This made Nella frown. "Why? I thought you said you're never too busy to eat lunch?"

Jane chuckled a little. "I guess I should have said 'late lunch'. Sa bahay nako kumakain. I usually just eat snacks like protein bars sa school," she rummaged through her backpack and found a flattened protein bar.

Nella shook her head. "Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. That won't get you through the rest of the day. You should eat. Here, let's share mine."

However, Jane refused. "Hala, sanay nako na sa bahay nako kumakain. Promise. Dun ako bumabanat. Kainin mo yan, sayo yan eh. Baka gutomin ka pa later sa next class mo."

Nella sighed. "Then why would you say yes when I invited you to EAT lunch with me here kung hindi ka naman pala kakain?"

"I am going to eat," Jane reassured her while showing her the flattened protein bar.
