"No, okay lang. Hindi ko na kelangan ng wheelchair," Jane said after she was discharged from the emergency room.
"Ha? Mag-lalakad ka lang, cuzzo? Kaya mo ba?" Danny frowned after he offered to get her a ride to the parking lot.
"Are you sure you can walk?" Nella said worriedly. Draped in her arms was Jane's sweater.
"Oo beh, okay lang. Carry ko. Nag-lakad nga ako papunta sa kotse nung tinayo ako ni Danny after ko malaglag eh," Jane assured her. While her sweater was draped on Nella's arm, her arm was draped on Nella's shoulder.
"Dahan-dahan lang," Nella reminded her.
"Okay lang ako, kayo talagang dalawa," Jane smiled at the two.
When they arrived at the parking lot, Jane faced Nella and smiled. "Salamat sa pagpunta, vaNella ha. Tsaka sa pag-akay na rin. Mag-ingat ka sa pag-drive mo pauwi tsaka pwede mokong i-text para alam kong naka-uwi ka na?" Jane requested.
Nella smiled back. "Maraming bagay pakong kelangang matutunan pagdating sa pagiging kaibigan. This is just one of them. Basta next time mag-ingat ka ha. 'Wag ka nang tatakbo ng hindi nakatingin sa dinadaanan mo, buti yan lang nangyari sayo. Eh pano kung nasagasaan ka?"
Jane chuckled nervously. "Mag-iingat po ako. Sana ikaw din."
Danny tried his hardest to keep his mouth shut and not to let out a squeal. He tried not to make it obvious that his giddiness is quickly taking over him again.
"Sige na. You guys get going para makapagpahinga na tong si Ms. Clumsy natin," Nella nodded at the two.
"Parang ang ganda naman ng Ms. Clumsy, masyadong sosyal. Hindi bagay. Ms. Lampa na lang para perfect," Danny teased.
Jane pulled on his ear playfully. "LAMPAso kita dyan eh."
Nella laughed at the two's silly antics. She could tell that despite the frequent teasing, the cousins really adored each other. "Ay sya. 'Wag na kayong magharutan dyan, baka malaglag na naman isa sa inyo. Good night, PB," she went in for a hug.
Jane couldn't help but take a deep breath. There was an essence, a scent, a feeling that lingers when Nella is present. All she wants is to bask in it. "Good night. Thank you again for coming."
Danny chuckled. "Akala mo nag-imbita sa bahay for dinner eh noh? Sa hospital pala pinasugod," he couldn't stop teasing Jane who poked his side for his comment.
"Oh God, please, I hope this is the last time I'll ever come to the hospital for you, Jane. I mean it. Alam mo yan," Nella told her.
"'Wag kang makinig dyan kay Danny. Okay nako, promise. Good night. Mag-ingat ka mag-drive please," Jane gave Nella's arm a gentle squeeze.
"I will," Nella nodded. Then she gave Danny a hug good night before helping Jane get settled in the car.
A short drive later, Nella was home.
"She's okay, tita. Naka-lingon daw kasi sa pinsan nya nung tumatakbo sa parking lot kaya ayun po, hindi nakita yung pothole," she told her aunt when she asked about Jane.
"Ay sus naman si Jane. Hindi nag-iingat," Weng sighed. "Mag-ingat kamo sya."
"Don't worry po, tita, hindi naman kami nagkulang ni Danny ng sermon sa kanya kanina. Pero okay lang po sya. Nothing was broken, thank God. I don't know how she'll get around sa school with a broken ankle. Laking hassle po sa kanya if ever. Sabi naman ng doctor nakatulong daw po yung ice na they put on top of her ankle habang nasa ER sya. Hindi na po sya ganun ka-swollen. Pinapa-ice po nila buong gabi pag-uwi nya sa bahay, and tomorrow daw po, sore na lang sya pero the swelling should be gone by then. It shouldn't hurt to walk anymore kahit may konting soreness pa," Nella explained.
