"Tita, ako na lang po pupunta. I can just update you when I get there. Wala pa po kayong pahinga. I slept the whole day naman po eh," Nella said. The look of concern didn't vanish from her face.
"Teka lang, eh sinong magda-drive sayo?" Weng asked worriedly.
"I'm driving there, tita." Nella took her keys from the drawer and grabbed a sweater from the closet.
"Ha? Are you sure?" Weng had to ask this because Nella hasn't been driving since her mother died.
"Yes, tita. Dinrive ko po yung car ni Jane after namin mag-lunch nung nag-beach clean up po kami para sa club," Nella let her know. "Tsaka malapit lang naman po eh."
Weng tried to calm herself down. "Okay." She was very protective of her niece, but she didn't want to make her feel like she was hovering too much.
"Thank you po, tita. I'll text you when I get there," Nella gave her aunt a kiss on the cheeks before she bolted out the door.
"Ingat!" Weng called out from the top of the stairs. She took a deep breath and stared at one of the pictures that were framed on the wall. "Bantayan mo yung anak mo. You know she's fragile. Don't let anything bad happen to her."
Upon arrival at the hospital, Nella hurried towards the information desk of the emergency room. "Hi, my friend is inside. Can I go and see her?"
"What's her name?" The lady asked.
"Jane. Jane Napoleon," Nella answered. She was shaking all over. She hated hospitals. The fact that her new friend was in there made her want to vomit from having so much anxiety.
"Okay, someone's in there right now, but I'm going to let you in since each patient can have two visitors at a time," the woman handed her a visitor's pass and buzzed her in.
"Thank you so much," Nella nodded towards the woman after she told her where to find Jane.
Meanwhile, inside the emergency room, Danny sat up straight when Jane woke up from her nap.
"Wala pa rin, teh?" She asked sleepily.
"Sino? Si Nella?" He asked.
"Anong is Nella? Nang-aasar na naman toh. Yung doctor kasi yung tinatanong ko. Ang tagal na natin dito, gusto ko na umuwi," she frowned while she pulled herself up so she could sit down.
"Don't get up too fast. Babaeng toh naman oh. Kaya ka na-iinjure kasi hindi ka careful sa galaw mo," he scolded. Tsaka malay ko ba? Si Nella naman kasi lagi mong hinahanap lately eh," he added.
But before Jane could argue, Nella suddenly appeared by the door.
"Nella," Jane frowned at the sight of her.
Nella slumped her shoulders. The expression on her face showed that she was on the verge of tears. "Thank God you're awake." She hurried towards her bedside. "Are you okay? San masakit? Ano bang nangyari sayo?"
"Anong ginagawa mo dito?" Jane stared at her like she was looking at a ghost. Then she glared at Danny.
"Danny told us you were here. Anong nangyari?" Nella scanned Jane from head to toe for any visible injuries.
"She fell," Danny said. "In love," he added with a giggle.
"Gaga," Jane threw at him a piece of gauze the nurse left by the table. Then she turned her attention towards Nella. "Wag mo pansinin yan. Pero yeah, nahulog ako. Tumatakbo kasi ako tapos di ko nakita yung pothole kaya ayan nalaglag ako. Na-twist ko yata yung ankle ko. Hindi ako makatayo ng maayos kanina. Hindi naman yata nabali, baka na-sprain ko lang. Pero gusto ni mommy ipa-X-ray ko na lang daw para sure. Swollen din kasi sya. Medyo okay na nga eh," she said while she wiggled her foot.
