Chapter 13:
I was halfway to my place when it began pouring rain. I left my sweater in my locker so I felt like a soaked animal. Suddenly, Crystal spotted walking home. Then she pulled over and opened the passenger door.
"Girl, are you crazy walking home like this! Get in."
I stood silent since there was still a throbbing pain in my head bothering me. I shivered and Crystal cranked up the car's heater. Then she handed me a towel to dry myself off with and
"So why were you walking home alone in the pouring rain in the first place? Why didn't you wait for me,"she asked.
"Alex offered me a ride and then-"
"Did he leave you on the side of the rode because I would commit murder if he did," Crystal trailed off.
I waved my hands to signal her to stop talking.
"No, it wasn't anything like that. I left him because of that stupid Hannah thing I didn't want to get involved so I just decided to leave him and walk home alone."
"I think there's more to that in the story. Why would you turn down a car ride and walk in pouring rain alone where anyone could snatch you up and steal you from us," She questioned.
"Ok, I won't lie. I found a picture on my locker of me...you know falling face first before Alex caught me and it had a caption that said 'No need to take things to the head'. "
"Oh gosh, don't worry I'll take care of everything when I get my hands on those girls!"
"No, just leave them. They're just rude and jealous and I'll try my best not to care but I can't guarantee it."
For the rest of the ride it was silent but I cherished it. 5 minutes later, she dropped me off at the front of my door and gave me a quick hug before she drove off into the street.
When I entered the door I was hammered with questions from my mom like, "Where were you?"
"I was walking home," I replied tiredly.
"With who?" She asked worriedly.
"Crystal," I lied.
"Doesn't she have a car?"
"Yes, but she decided to 'go green' today and walk to and from school."
"Well, I think that's very responsible of her and that's the stuff your father and I want you involved in," she lectured.
Before she got the chance to dip into one of her hour-long lectures, I told her I had a long day and I just wanted to sleep in my bed. She got the message and I dragged my exhausted body to my comfortable bed.
I locked my room door and entered my bathroom. I splashed cold water onto my face and looked into the mirror. I looked completely terrible. My hair was curly and wet but the wild tangled mess on top of my head didn't compare to the bags under my eyes. It could've been worse and I silently thanked Crystal for applying water proof mascara otherwise I would've look worse with raccoon eyes. I took a make up remover and wiped my entire face with it. I looked much better and then I decided to save my tangled mess of a hair for tomorrow.
After fixing myself, I crawled to my bed and grabbed my drawing pad from under my pillow. No one but Crystal and Harvey knew that I was totally into art. I drew pictures of people, plants, and objects. They always insisted on me showing everyone my portraits but I didn't feel very comfortable showing everyone my secret talent.
I flipped through all of my drawings. I drew everything and anything. Then I got a crazy idea to draw Alex. It won't be like he'll even see it. I weighed the possibilities and then grabbed my art supplies and gathered them on top of my bed.
