Three months had passed since Avyukt’s naming ceremony, and the Malhotra household had slowly settled into a new routine. However, nights were often a different story.
One particular night, the clock struck two, and the serene silence of the mansion was broken by Avyukt’s soft cries. Nandini, nestled comfortably in Manik’s arms, stirred awake.
“Your turn,” she mumbled sleepily, nudging Manik.
Manik groaned but smiled, carefully disentangling himself from Nandini. “Alright, alright. I’m on it.”
He made his way to the cradle, lifting Avyukt gently. “Hey there, little champ. What’s troubling you now?”
Avyukt gurgled in response, his tiny fists waving in the air. Manik began to pace the room, softly humming a lullaby. “Let’s not wake mommy up, okay? She needs her sleep.”
Despite his best efforts, Avyukt’s cries grew louder, and soon enough, Nandini was wide awake. “Manik, what’s wrong? Why is he still crying?”
Manik gave her a sheepish look. “I’m trying, but he’s not calming down.”
Nandini got up, taking Avyukt from Manik’s arms. “Oh, my little troublemaker. What’s bothering you?” She gently rocked him, and within minutes, Avyukt’s cries turned to soft whimpers and then silence.
Manik watched in awe. “You have the magic touch, Nandini.”
Nandini smiled, her eyes twinkling with exhaustion and love. “It’s a mother’s instinct. Now let’s try to get some sleep.”
Nights continued in a similar pattern, with Avyukt waking up multiple times. Manik and Nandini took turns, sometimes together, sometimes separately, trying to soothe their son back to sleep.
One night, Avyukt decided to be particularly troublesome. Manik had just settled back into bed after rocking Avyukt to sleep when the baby started crying again. Nandini sighed, about to get up, but Manik stopped her.
“Stay, Nandini. I’ll handle this.”
He picked up Avyukt, who looked up at him with wide, curious eyes. “You like waking Daddy up, don’t you?” Manik teased, kissing his son’s forehead.
He walked around the room, humming softly. “Let’s give Mumma some rest, okay?”
Manik tried everything from singing lullabies to making funny faces. “Look at daddy, Avyukt. Isn’t this funny?” He pulled a face, making Avyukt giggle.
Nandini watched from the bed, smiling. “You’re doing great, Manik.”
Manik chuckled. “I’m just trying to keep up. This little guy has too much energy.”
Eventually, Avyukt fell asleep in Manik’s arms. Manik gently placed him back in the cradle and returned to bed, exhausted but happy.
“You’re amazing, you know that?” Nandini whispered, snuggling closer to him.
