Welcome to the first chapter of »Nemesism«!

I am happy you are here and willing to give this fanfiction a try!

Usually the chapter will start out with a diary entry from Lucy and end with a part of an article she's written, but I though I'd skip that since this is the "introduction" chapter :)

Anyways, this fanfic starts of pretty heavy, so beware the TW's: MENTIONING OF ABUSE & BULLYING, SELF-HARM, SUICIDE THOUGHTS

I hope you will enjoy it anyways!

[Nemesism]

{N} Frustration, Anger, or Aggression directed inward, toward oneself and one's way of living

»Thank you for your time, Ms. Forrester. I really enjoyed talking to you and would like to offer you the position for next season.« Christian was widely smiling at Lucy through the laptop camera, stretching out his arms to either side in a celebratory movement.

Lucy, sitting in the comfort of her half-packed dorm room, a blanket over her lap and several scented candles burning in all corners of her room, needed a moment until the news really reached her. Then her mouth dropped open.

Yes, she'd been aware what job she was applying to - personal journalist for RedBull for the 2024 season - but she hadn't expected to get the job. Like at all.

The only reason she'd even asked for an interview was because her cousin Kyra, who was pretty tight with the RedBull team, had suggested she'd do it. And honestly Lucy still believed Kyras connections to Horner was the only reason he'd agreed to have this zoom meeting.

Now the young woman started to think that might be the reason Christian Horner was offering her the position as well. That was the last thing she wanted. Getting things she didn't deserve in the first place.

Christian noticed the less than happy look on the blonde girls face and with a slight frown he asked, »Shouldn't you be happy? ...Or do you not want the job?«

»No, I do! I- I just want to be sure I'm getting it for the right reasons...« Lucys cheeks flushed with heat, embarrassed by how ungrateful she sounded. Maybe she should have just agreed, felt guilty about it in silence.

But Horner didn't seem resentful or insulted at all, just slightly confused. »What would be wrong reasons?«

»Me getting the job because you know my cousin, Kyra. I'm aware she already had some involvement in getting me this interview... So I-« Lucy took a deep breath as she tended to get her words all mixed up and stutter when she got nervous. Looking like a scared little girl was the last thing she needed right now. »It's just... highly unlikely to me that someone like you, working for a Team like RedBull, the most successful Formula 1 Team at the moment, would hire a fresh out-of-college journalist out of the good of their heart.«

Finished with her big speech Lucy decided it was best to shut up, even though she wanted to add some things. Half-way through each sentence she'd already wanted to apologize for being so blunt... But if she'd learned one thing while getting her Bachelors degree, it was that you should never correct your words. Just stand to them and take the consequences.
