I'd like to mention that the race results won't always be accurate here. Sorry, but it's for the plot :)

Okay so sit down, because shit will fly. Kinda. I'm scared I'm overselling this.

Guess I'll get to the TW's: physical abuse, threats, Jos Verstappen

Enjoy!

Lucy's diary

I need to figure out what is going on with Max. I know he got all defensive when I talked about his father, but I am very sure he's involved in whatever is wrong.
And I know Max probably won't be very excited about it, but I get how he feels. Never in a million years would I have considered telling anyone about what my grandparents did to me, mostly because I deserved it, but still I silently wished someone would have noticed. Someone who could have done something...

The Saudi Arabian heat was even worse that the day before. Everyone was staying in the shadows and ventilators put up all around the hospitalities. Race drivers were given pitiful looks as they were the ones who'd have to go out there and sit in already hot cars for one to two hours.

Checo and Max did their best to stay cool and hydrated in preparation. Ice baths and electrolyte heavy drinks were especially popular.

Around an hour before the race started, Max suddenly noticed the lack of sightings of his father during the past hours. In one way he was relieved... but where the fuck had the man disappeared to?

It wasn't like Jos at all as he preferred to breathe down his sons neck at all times on race days. But Max wasn't about to go look for him, more than happy to have some time with the team.

Later, when him and Checo were ushered to their cars, Max discovered what had been keeping his father away. Or rather who.

Lucy was sitting with him, talking more than he'd ever seen her do before. The way it looked she was asking question after question, while Jos was giving short, pointed answers. But she was relentless, none of her usual awkwardness showing.

Everyone standing around was glancing at them, not just Max. They all knew how out of the ordinary the scene was. But only Max knew what she was doing.

His performance yesterday apparently hadn't been believable enough. Lucy was doing this on purpose, keeping his father away from him because she was still sure he was abusive.

Sure, Max's little crying session yesterday probably hadn't helped his case...

His initial suspicion turned into a warm feeling. He definitely wasn't gonna go run and tell the girl all about his secrets, but seeing her do something that was meant to help him, even though he'd been such an asshole (again) the day before... It did make him smile.

Max didn't think about it much more as he had to focus on the race. The heat was killing him. After the warm-up lap he'd sweated through his fire-proofs and suit, not sure how he'd make it through another 50.

Additional to that, he was looking at the back of Charles' Ferrari. It drove him crazy. Max didn't pay attention to what was going on behind him. There was only one car he'd have to overtake, that was all that mattered.
