a/n- if you like this book, check out the newest chapter of my kenji fic- "born to die"
I'm walking back from training with Kenji, who suggested that we head to his room to have some of his snacks as a little celebration for my progress.
"Adam hates me, Kenj."
"You did hook up with his brother while he was in love with you."
I point to the scar on my forehead. "Well at least Warner doesn't hurt me."
"He'll... he'll come around. But what he did to you wasn't cool, princess. It's not your fault that Warner was provoking him in the cafeteria."
Kenji opens the door, and to my disappoint, Adam is in there. James stands behind him, and he doesn't look pleased to see me either.
I never wanted James to hate me.
And I never wanted Adam to hate me either.
Adam scoffs, immediately moving towards me. "What is she doing here? I don't want her here."
"In case you forgot, Emilia is my friend. And she's supposed to be yours too."
Adam looks me up and down, disgusted. "You're not my friend anymore. I want you gone. I want you out of this room and I want you out of Omega Point."
I feel my heart shatter into a million pieces. Adam was the first one who welcomed me at the Sector 45 base, and he was one of the first friends I made after Carven abandoned me.
And now he's telling me that he wants me to leave. I try to stop the tears from coming out, but they come out anyways. My emotions are my weakness.
Kenji puts his hand on my shoulder. "Em, wait-"
I open the door and then slam it. I walk down the hallway without ever looking back. After pacing, I head back to my room. I expect it to be empty or for Juliette to be in there, but that's not who I find asleep on my bed.
Aaron's head is resting on my pillow, and he's asleep. It's so unusual, because usually he has a very defined sleep schedule. And why would he be in my room?
I take my steps softly and slowly, trying to silence my sniffling as best as I can. His hair looks so soft that I can't resist reaching out and touching it. I gently brush some out of his face and take the time to appreciate a side of him I've never seen.
His emerald eyes slowly blink open. "Lia," he whispers.
"Good morning, sleepyhead."
"I wasn't supposed to fall asleep. My apologies, love."
"Why are you here?"
"Why are you crying? Love, what happened?"
I climb up onto the bed, and he pulls me against his chest with no hesitation. I bury my head into him, taking deep breaths. "I asked you first, Aaron."
"I need to get out of here. I can't waste my time staying here, and the Reestablishment won't be coming for me anyways," he says. "I want you to come with me, Lia."
I don't know what to do. Aaron wants me to leave Omega Point with him, which might be the only way I'll continue to see him. But if I leave Omega Point, I'm betraying my friends and I'm leaving them.
I think of Kenji, James, and Juliette. And then I think of Adam. He doesn't want me here anyways. He told me himself that it would be better if I left.
I'm not supposed to go with the enemy.
But do they even want me here?
Really, what use does Castle even have for me? He has so many other people with powers, and Juliette is far stronger than me. The only friend I really have here is Kenji.
As much as I hate to admit it, Aaron was right this whole time in his own way. He's the only one who understands me.
"I don't know what to do. I don't want to leave them, but I can't leave you."
"Tell me, love. Tell me why you were crying."
"It's not important."
"It's important to me."
"Adam told me he doesn't want me here."
Aaron hugs me even tighter, his fingers running through my hair. "I don't know when you'll ever believe me, love. They don't deserve you or appreciate you for all of your magnificence."
I feel as if my decision is made.
"When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow. You've made the right decession."
Everything has changed so quickly. I feel like a traitor, but I also don't feel like I belong here. I will miss Kenji, but I'm sure I'll see him again.
Everything is going well, until Aaron has to leave. Castle has called for a meeting with him alone, which I know he has no interest in. I'm surprised that Aaron even agrees to go.
I'm left in my room alone. I only get a few minutes of peace before there is a loud knock. I just wish everyone knew how to leave me alone. I know it's not Aaron.
"Go away, Kenji," I yell.
"That's a rude way to greet guests, darling."
My expression hardens. "Carven. What are you doing here?"
He runs a hand along his perfectly formulated curls and smirks. I don't know what makes him think I have any desire to see him.
Him and Adam think that they can just easily win my heart over like I'm some defenseless little girl.
"I heard that Castle is throwing our second chances to just about anyone. He believes that Warner of all people are going to change."
I scoff. "You're not here to change. You're here to terrorize my life. I thought I made it clear that I want you out of it."
"You've gotten mean, Emilia."
He tries to move closer, but a spark of electricity knocks him back. "And you haven't changed, Carven."
"What a nice little trick. It won't hold me back."
"You probably have about 5 minutes until Warner comes and kills you."
He tilts his head. "Growing fond of him now, are we?"
"It's none of your business. I never said I had feelings for him."
He grabs my chin. "What a beautiful liar. Warner is filth."
I feel rage everywhere in my body. I feel a surge of electricity that I've never felt before and it's all heading towards Carven. His mouth widens as a hum rumbles through his hair and zaps his body.
He falls to the ground, and I don't know whether to feel satisfied or remorse.
All I know is that Aaron and I need to leave Omega Point sooner than expected. I don't know I killed him, but when anyone finds out that I hurt him, I'm sure the consequences won't be good.
I'm rushing down the hallways, searching every room for Aaron. Instead, I go crashing into his chest. "Love?"
"Aaron, we need to go."
"Why?"
"I have to explain later. We just have to leave now."
Aaron doesn't question me, instead he offers me a bag. "What's this?"
"I already collected your things for you, love."
I find it extremely sweet that Aaron took his time to collect all of my things for me, and I smile.
"Let's get out of here."
