He stood guard in the shadows outside of the cabin. Seeing how the lights rose and fell from its windows night and day. He saw how it sometimes got blocked by the incredible powers Vega possessed.
A blessing from the black desert, to control and manipulate matter in sand. He shook his head as his father had described the power. It could destroy almost anything, ripping it to sand and dust to be controlled by her. She could reform it, turn it into new things or back to its original form. In theory she would only grow more powerful with time, gaining more and more power for each day that passed.
But that was only a theory. He saw that she had no control, that she had no idea what it was that happened when the sand appeared. He heard her screams, they ripped the silence around him apart. Like his tools did on some of his victims.
Two weeks had he spent watching her from afar, he was the one who could come closest, one not related to her in any way. So he watched her, ready to help if she asked for it. His little camp was just a small fire and tent, but with winter approaching he would need something bigger soon. Or hope that Vega would ask him to enter the cabin.
Whatever came first.
Orion hunched down as the Princess walked past the window, her head was as always covered by a shawl, her clothes looked dirty. He never saw any light from other rooms in the cabin, nothing that showed him that a fire was keeping her warm. She had grown up in the Spring Court, a place that never needed to see the winter frost. She stopped by the window and looked out over the forest, Orion hunched down, calling his darkness to hide his body.
It was uncanny how much her eyes glowed in the fading autumn light. Like the pale moon slowly rising higher and higher. Vega left the window, her silhouette disappearing among the shadows inside. His own darkness had nothing to say or tell him about the female in that house. And while everyone else asked him daily about any updates, he had no information to give.
Standing up slowly to not catch any attention to himself, Orion held his eyes even more fixed on the cabin. He had always known who he was, that he was not born from Gwyn and Azriel, that he was found and taken to them to have a better life. He knew that his powers were different and they had always helped him. But to be like her... To have lived a lie for so long.
To have her appearance changed to fit in with that lie... He shook his head, unsure about how he would think about something like that. To hear that his entire life was a lie... It is fucked up.
"Hello?" A voice called out in the night, "Anybody there?" Orion froze, she was standing there in the doorway, a blanket wrapped around her, and the glowing eyes fixed on him. Orion tried to melt into the night. But something about the eyes made him take a step forward. "Show yourself." A command, he knew that power, but before he could protect himself the Daemati powers forced him out from his hiding spot.
"I didn't mean to scare you." He said and raised his hands, Vega held her eyes on him.
"Who are you?" No powers this time, she would need someone to teach her how to use them.
"A friend." He said, taking a few more steps forward. "My name is Orion."
"I have no friends named that." Orion smirked.
"Well, now you do." He said and walked closer, "I can go away if you like."
"Why did you stand there?" She asked back. Orion bit his lip, unsure how to answer.
"I was tasked to look after you."
"By the cabin?"
If it works, "Yes."
