"I heard about what happened earlier today at school. Thank you for getting her help right away. She wouldn't be here if it weren't for you", Jasmine told me. My family was over at Cashmere's place for dinner. "I knew it was the right thing to do." I told her before heading off to Cashmere's room. I had checked to make sure that there was no rope and a low hanging light. She was sitting on her bed, silently crying. "There's no rope around this house, if that's what you're thinking about." I told her. "I already know that." She told me as I sat down. "What is it?" I asked, grabbing her hand. "It's Alex. He told me earlier today that he loves me. I don't know what to do". She told me. I knew he was eventually going to say it to her. They belong together, but I don't think that Cashmere is realizing that.
"When I was feeling the rope against my neck, I didn't see Alex. I saw Jack". She told me before taking her hands back and burying her face in them. I always thought she would love Alex, not Jack. Jack is bad for her.
A thought came into my head though, if I talked to him, maybe I can see where Cashmere is coming from. Maybe I can give him a chance. "You used to work with him on a project earlier in the year. Correct?" I asked her. "Yeah I did. I still have his number. I don't know why I have it. I've been meaning to get rid of it. You know what? I'm going to take care of that right now". She told me. As she grabbed her phone, I stopped her by pulling her arm back. "Don't. I need the number actually". I tried telling her, not making it seem like I was up to something. "Why do you need it?" She asked. "I remember seeing him the other day and he claimed that he needed help with some project in art class". I told her, hoping that would work. I was able to get the number without any questions from her. She probably didn't suspect anything. I wanted to keep his number for safekeeping.
Heading back out, I couldn't help but overhear my mother, Lucy, talking to Jasmine. "Just make sure that no one finds out about what happened back then." She warned her. "I know what to do. Please don't threaten me again by trying to tell me how to run my household. I know what I'm doing." Jasmine had told her in a rather rude tone before heading off to the living room. Lucy had grabbed her arm before Jasmine could get anywhere, and held her close. "Just keep her safe. We all know what's going to happen if she finds out about her, and we don't want that". She told her before letting go. I walked by, pretending that I didn't hear their conversation.
"Hey mom". I exclaimed; trying to not sound worried about her. "Please don't tell me you overheard our conversation just now". She told me. "What are you talking about? I didn't hear nothing". I told her, trying not to make it obvious that I was lying to her. I hate lying to my mom, but she's crossed the line.
I headed into the bathroom, because I needed to wash my hands before dinner. After closing the door, the lights started flickering. I went to get the door, but the handle disappeared out of sight. "What's happening?" I asked as the room started shaking. A voice came and spoke to me, "Jennifer", was the name.
