Author's Note: This chapter talks about the loss of a parent as well as terminal illness, though not in great detail.

However, it's a sad chapter and if you're not in the right mindset to read this, please don't put yourself through it.

I'll be updating this book again very soon and more updates are coming for other books tonight too so if you read my other work, this isn't the only chapter I'll be releasing tonight.

Take care of yourselves. Hug your mom if you can. Don't take your loved ones for granted. I love you all

"I don't think I can do it." You told Mina through your sobs as she rubbed your back soothingly.

Sitting in the chairs outside of your mom's hospital room, the pain and sadness you felt was unlike anything you've ever felt before.

Your mom has been sick for a while now.

For so long, you had hoped that things would get better and she'd be back to herself in no time.

But over these last few months, she's only gotten worse as her health declined quickly, leaving her weak and barely there.

The doctor gave you the news today that, chances are, she probably wouldn't make it another day.

It's a hard pill to swallow and you've cried more than you have in your whole life as it sinks in that your mom isn't going to be around anymore after today.

Saying goodbye is all there's left to do now and you're struggling to go in there to do that.

"I know this is hard, baby. But if you don't say goodbye, you're going to regret it." Mina said and you looked into her eyes with your teary ones.

Yet another tear fell down your cheek and your lip trembled.

You know she's right but you just can't bring yourself to do it.

"Do you want me to go with you?" She asked.

You nodded.

"Okay. Come on, baby. We'll do it together."

You stood up and slowly, dreadfully, you made your way into your mom's hospital room.

Another sob left your lips.

She was barely there anymore, holding on by just a thread.

You made your way over to her as Mina followed behind you with her hand on your back.

Sitting down on the chair beside her bed, Mina watched you take your mom's hand as she stood behind you and gently brushed her hands across your shoulders.

"I love you." You said as you held your mom's hand. "More than you'll ever know. Thank you for being the best mom in the world. I won't ever forget all the things you did for me. How you'd always dropped everything to be there for me."

You could barely see her through the blur of your tears.

"I know this day was bound to come. I didn't want to admit it because, even when others lost hope, I never did, but I think deep down I knew it was only a matter of time. God, Mom, how am I supposed to live without you? You're my best friend and have been for years. I love you."

Mina blinked away her tears.

"You always supported me. You've loved me for who I am and I've always known how incredibly lucky I am to have a mom as amazing as you. I promise I won't ever let you go. I won't forget about you. I'll never forget your voice or the happiness that was always in your eyes every time I saw you. I'll never forget how you said that knew Mina was the one for me the second you met her."

A heavy exhale left your lips as you tried to breathe despite feeling a heavy weight on your shoulders, the sadness you felt so deep and so inexpressible.

"I promise, I'll always keep you inside my heart. I won't ever let you go. I need you to promise you'll look down on me and that even when you're gone, you're never really gone."

You sighed because you know that she's so far gone, she can't tell you that.

But you felt it in your heart.

She would always be there, even when she's gone.

"I know heaven is going to be so lucky to have you. You've always been an angel on earth, they're going to be happy that you're back. I love you more than you'll ever know."

You stood up and kissed her cheek softly.

"I'm so lucky that I chose you as my mom. It's okay if you need to let go now. Thank you for everything."

You sniffled and held her hand for another moment.

"This isn't goodbye." You said with a shaky breath. "I promise. I'll love you forever."

Mina dried her tears when you looked at her and you threw your arms around her, sobbing.

She kissed your head before pulling away and going to your mom's side.

"I'll always treat her well. I'll make all of her dreams come true. I promised you that the first day I met you and I will always keep that promise to you. You were an amazing mother, it was very clear to see that. Thank you for always supporting me and for making me feel like family. You'll never be forgotten. Let go when you feel ready. Fly high." Mina said as she gave your mom's hand a gentle squeeze.

She turned around and wrapped her arm around you before you walked out of the hospital room.

The drive home was quiet and you didn't stop crying.

Mina had to pull over halfway there because you got the call just a few minutes after you left that your mom had taken her last breath and had let go.

When she pulled into the driveway a little while later, she helped you inside and up the stairs before climbing into bed with you.

You clung to her, gripping her shirt tightly as you cried against her skin.

She let a few tears fall from her eyes too, feeling the sadness and pain from the loss of a genuinely good human that had always treated her like a daughter because your mom adored her and was always there for her.

"It hurts so much." You cried.

"I know." Mina sniffled. "I know, my love. It's okay. Let it out."

You sobbed together and she just held you tighter than she ever has, knowing that you need each other now more than ever.

"I know she's out of pain now and that's what matters but it hurts a lot. I want her back."

"I know, baby," Mina whispered. "I'd bring her back for you in a heartbeat if I could."

But she couldn't.

And she knew that.

All she could do was be here for you and let you cry as much as you need to for the next few days, weeks, and months.

She'd do everything she could to make you feel better and to help heal your heart, even if it was just a little.
