* three years later *
It's been 3 years and ya girl is finally a RN !!! Kehlani is 4 years old and we are still living in our house. Me and Dondon still communicate about co-parenting and yes i still let him come over and get some every now and then, but other than that i am single and ready to mingle. It's currently 6:05am and i am getting ready for work, im about to pull an 12 hour shift today and i am just not prepared at all. I got up and brushed my teeth, did my bathroom routine and got ready for work. Kehlani is at my parents house, she'll be back this weekend. I fixed my lunch, put water in my cup, got in the car and drove to work. It feels weird going to work, like i am actually working for my own money instead of getting everything handed to me. Semaje and I are still besties, we're still getting along well and isn't letting anything get in between us. Mercedes on the other hand isn't so much liking that and she disses us on facebook every once in a while. But that's what broke miserable hoes do.
I parked my car and got out grabbing my purse behind me. I went and clocked in and my shift had started. My first patient was so sweet and she had been rushed to the hospital because she had an heart attack while working. As i walked out of her room from taking her vitals, i heard the emergency room door bust open and the nurses screaming and yelling about the victim, "Incoming trauma! Gunshot wound to the chest, one to the back! Patient's BP is 90/60, heart rate 120. Prepare trauma bay 1, notify the trauma team, and get blood ready for transfusion. We need a chest tube set up and the surgical team on standby!" The last 2 nurses rushed by with a police officer saying the victims name, " Jay'Quan Williams, 24 years old, was found inside his car. My heart dropped... It felt like i couldn't breathe but there wasn't anything i could but to pray and keep working. I was assigned to be his recovery nurse, after his surgery i went up on the elevator to then find myself at Jay'Quan's door, I knocked. A voice told me to come in, i walked in and seen all of the members from Dondon crew, even Dondon hisself was sitting at the edge of Jay'Quan's bed. " I need you all to step out for a minute", i said standing at the door. They all got up and left. Dondon was the last to leave, " He won't talk, can you help him. I can't lose him." He said before closing the door.
I sighed and walked over to Jay'Quan's bed. " My name is Armoni, I will be your nurse from now up until you are ready to leave.. Are you feeling any pain? on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate it ?" Silence. He didn't say anything.. All you could hear in the room was the monitors beeping. " Mr. Williams, can you hear me? I asked about your pain level. If you can't speak, can you nod your head or give me a thumbs-up to let me know you're okay?" Jay'Quan starts to give a faint nod and a weak thumbs up, signaling he's aware but in too much pain. "Okay perfect, i understand you're in pain okay? I'm here to help you." I started to check his vitals just to be sure he's okay. " I'm going to request for you some more stronger medicine to tolerate your pain." I grabbed his file and walked towards the door. As i opened it, i saw DonDon and the rest of them run up to me, as well as this older looking lady that could be his mother. " Is he okay?" " Did he talk to you?", all of these questions were thrown at me at once. " He's okay, he's in a lot of pain but he's stable. I'm doing everything i can to make sure he's comfortable." The older woman grabbed my arm before i could walk off " Thank you! he's all i have left." I nodded my head, smiled at her and walked away.
The rest of the night was a whirlwind. Police officers and detectives moved in and out of Jay'Quan's room, their voices low but firm as they questioned DonDon and his family. I walked back into the room. " I'm just here to check his vitals." The tension in the room was suffocating. DonDon's usual cocky demeanor was gone, and replaced by a man holding it together. He sat in the corner looking out of the window, while Jay'Quan's mother laid beside him rubbing his hair and humming a tune. As i finished up checking his vitals, i grabbed his file at the end of the bed and was walking out when DonDon jumped up behind me and asked if he could talk to me outside. Something in me wanted to say no, but i just couldn't.
