LOS ANGELES
Paige woke with a shock by the shrill sound of her alarm. She blinked, disoriented, and realized she was on Jocelyn's couch. The clock read 7 AM. Panic set in as she remembered she had to be downstairs at the hotel for breakfast with her teammates in an hour. She scrambled off the couch, frantically looking for her phone and keys.Jocelyn came downstairs, wearing a big shirt and sweats. catching sight of Paige's frantic movements. "Good morning," she said, her voice still groggy. She glanced at the kitchen counter, where the remnants of their late-night fast food lay next to Paige's keys and phone. With a small smile, she picked them up. "Looking for these?" she asked, holding out the keys attached to a "GO HUSKIES" lanyard and the phone.
Paige's relief was palpable as she took them. "Thank you," she said, her voice rushed. "I need to call an Uber, like, right now."
Jocelyn shook her head. "Why don't I just drive you? It'll be quicker, and you won't have to spend any money."
Paige hesitated. "No, it's fine, really."
"Come on," Jocelyn insisted. "It's no trouble."
After a moment's pause, Paige relented. "Alright, thanks."
They hurried out to Jocelyn's white Porsche, and as they got in, Paige couldn't help but admire the sleek car. "Wow," she said, "this is incredible. I'm more of a truck girl."
Jocelyn laughed as she started the engine. "I can see that."
The drive was quiet at first, the tension of the morning slowly easing. Paige broke the silence. "Thanks for inviting me over last night. I really did have a good time."
"Anytime," Jocelyn replied. "I'm not usually around a lot of different people, so it was refreshing."
Paige smirked. "Oh, you mean you don't have a bunch of friends and guys coming in and out?"
"No," Jocelyn said with a chuckle. "I actually have had the same two friends for many years now."
"Dove and Adam?" Paige asked, her tone teasing.
Jocelyn looked over at her, surprised. "Yeah, how did you know that?"
Paige shrugged, a sheepish smile spreading across her face. "I may have stalked your Instagram just a little bit."
They both laughed, the sound light and easy. As they pulled up to the hotel, Jocelyn put on a big pair of sunglasses and a hat, trying to be discreet. Paige noticed and smiled to herself.
"The hat is crazy, not gonna lie. Did someone put a hit out on you or something?" Paige asked.
Jocelyn looks around anxiously. "No, but there's about fifteen men with big cameras just waiting to catch me doing something i'm not supposed to." She says.
Paige nodded in understanding and slowly removed Jocelyn's sunglasses.
"Thanks again for the ride," Paige said, her tone sincere. They shared a moment, eyes locked, but didn't kiss goodbye. Paige got out of the car, jogging into the hotel with a wave.
