Jocelyn stood by the window, arms crossed, gazing at the sprawling yard outside, but her mind was elsewhere. Kate's presence loomed behind her, silent but heavy. When she finally spoke, her voice was soft, measured.

"You miss her?" Kate asked.

Jocelyn whipped around, brows furrowing as she met Kate's eyes. "What? No, of course not."

Kate didn't respond right away, just stood there, watching, waiting for something more.

Jocelyn sighed, brushing her hands through her hair in frustration. "Why would you even ask me that?" she demanded, trying to push back the flood of emotions. "Paige destroyed me, Kate. She shattered everything we had, and I spent years picking up the pieces. I don't—" Her voice cracked despite herself, and she swallowed hard before continuing. "I don't miss her. I love you. I love our life together."

She turned away again, hugging herself, trying to suppress the lingering ache that Paige's visit had stirred.

Kate took a step closer, her voice gentle but firm. "But she misses you."

Jocelyn froze.

"I heard her," Kate continued. "She's still in love with you, Joc. She said she's ready to give you everything, everything she couldn't before."

Jocelyn shook her head, her heart pounding in her chest. "That doesn't matter. It's too late for all of that. Paige had her chance, and she ruined it. We've moved on. I've moved on."

Kate's silence hung between them. Finally, she reached out, resting a hand on Jocelyn's shoulder. "But what if she's ready now?"

Jocelyn stared out at the horizon, her emotions in turmoil. She loved Kate, deeply. Their life, though quieter than what she'd once known, was steady and warm. But Paige had always been chaos, passion, fire—elements she'd buried, and yet they still flickered somewhere deep inside her.

"I don't care," Jocelyn said softly. "She can be ready all she wants. It doesn't change what happened. It doesn't change what I have now."

Kate stepped back, nodding, but her eyes remained on Jocelyn, searching. "If that's really how you feel, then I believe you."

Jocelyn turned to face her, her expression softening. "I do. I love you, Kate. You're everything to me."

Kate smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "I love you too," she whispered.

But as Jocelyn wrapped her arms around Kate, pulling her close, she couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted—something neither of them could ignore for much longer.
