Going To The Chapel

Kelly and I had just left this apartment. It was the same day my mom had told me about Hartford and Kelly and I's unexpected engagement.

We got on his bike and he drove to a pawnshop. I knew Kelly didn't have a lot of money, hell I didn't have a lot of money. I was fine with wherever we went and whatever ring he got me.

We entered and the person behind the counter asked what we were looking for. "A ring." Kelly said as we both walked up to the counter.

The guy looked between the two of us. "A ring? What kind of ring? Wedding, Engagement, Class?" He listed off.

"Engagement." Kelly replied. The guy nodded and got something out from behind the counter and put it down on top of it. It was a case of a bunch of engagement rings.

They for sure weren't from Cartier or Tiffany's and that was okay. Love and marriage are more than a ring and where it's from.

"Do you see any you like?" Kelly asked me. I looked a the rings in front of us. You could tell that some of them had a long life on someone's finger. "Maybe that one." I said as I pointed to one.

The guy picked it up and showed it to Kelly and I.

It had a medium sized diamond. It could be fake,  but like I said. It didn't matter. "So is this the one?" Kelly questioned me. I turned to him with a faint smile. "Yeah, I think it is." I responded.

Kelly smiled and the guy told us a price. A 100$ dollar bill. All Kelly had was a 50, but he made it work. He gave the guy the 50 and then gave him one of the rings he always wears. I told him he didn't have to do that, but he wouldn't listen.

We then had my ring and we walked out.

When we reached his bike, we stood in front of each other before we got on. Kelly looked at me intently and with a lot of emotion. He took his left hand and put the ring on my finger. "Does it fit?" He questioned.

I smiled at him. It surprisingly did. "Yeah." I told him honestly. He then wrapped his arms around me and hugged me. Eventually he let go. "We need to tell Janey, and we gotta tell my parents." I told him as we got on his bike.

He agreed and we were off.

When we got to Janey's, I just walked in and Kelly followed me. "Oh, Laurie. It's nice to see you!" Mrs. Corick exclaimed as she saw me and Kelly. "Hey Mrs. Corick, this is my...this is Kelly. It's Janey around?" I questioned.

Mrs. Corick nodded just as Janey appeared in the kitchen. "Oh, hey Laurie, Kelly." She said with a small smile. I looked at her, big ass smile spreading on not just my face, but Kelly's too.

"What? You guys look like you've got secrets to tell." She stated. Then she paused for a minute. "Oh my god, are you pregnant?" She asked with kind of furrowed and kind of raised eyebrows.

I rolled my eyes and slapped her arm while also giving Mrs. Corick a look that told her I was sorry. "Jesus, fuck no." I responded truthfully. "Good, you almost gave me a heart attack." Mrs. Corick said.

"Kelly and I do have news though." I told them both. "Well what is it?" Janey asked excitedly and eagerly. I smiled at her. "We're getting married." I said, finally letting the bomb drop.

I watched as both she and her mom's eyes went wide. "What!?" They both said with smiles. I knew they'd be happy, it was just all so sudden. "I then held out my left hand and both Janey and Mrs. Corick examined my ring.

They smiled at me again. "Congratulations." They both said. Kelly and I both said thank you and I told Janey and Mrs. Corick not to tell anyone until I told my parents. I also told Janey I'd fill her in on all the shit that went down earlier.

They agreed and we left.

We then went to my parents.

Kelly and I both walked in and my parents were both in the living room. "Finally you came home. Kelly hi!" My mom said with a smile when she saw Kelly. "Hey Mrs. Samston, Mr. Samston." Kelly said not only addressing my mom, but my dad too.

"Mom, dad. Listen, we gotta talk." I told them as Kelly and I stayed standing. I watched as my parents shared a look. "You're not pregnant are you?" My dad questioned. I rolled my eyes again. "I am not, anyway, Kelly and I need to tell you something." I told them, hoping that neither one of them would jump to conclusions without hearing what we were gunna tell them.

"Well, what is it honey?" My mom questioned. I looked to Kelly and he grabbed my hand, both of us looking back to my parents. I let a few minutes pass by before I said anything.

"We're engaged." I finally said. They looked between the two of us and then to each other. "You're not engaged until I see a ring." My dad said, with a tone that straight up said he wasn't okay with me getting married.

I then took my hand out of my pocket and held it out for them like I had at Janey's house. My mom's eyes went wide. "That's a beautiful ring, honey." She said with a smile.

My dad looked at Kelly and I in disbelief.

I swear I saw a stray tear roll down my father's cheek. "I-well then I guess, I guess our little girl is getting married." My dad said as he turned to look at my mom.

I watched as they both smiled at each other and then they both got up and gave Kelly and I hugs, my dad ending he and Kelly's with a handshake.

That went better than I expected. I'm surprised my dad didn't ream Kelly's ass for not asking for his blessing.

But hell, half the things my parents did anymore surprised me.

After my parents were done congratulating us, we went to tell the guys.

This was crazy...but it wasn't like a bad crazy.

Don't get me wrong, getting engaged to someone you've only known for a few weeks and getting engaged a week after you graduate high school it 100% was fucking insane. But it was alright...well-fuck I don't know how to explain it.

But I do know that sometime Kelly and I are going to a chapel and we're gonna get married.

How the hell did we end up here?
