never talk about Grandpa?" Rory pondered quietly, sitting between Adele's legs with her back against the leather couch.

The older lady brushed her curly hair gently with a soft-bristled brush, getting ready to plait it. "there are pictures of you guys all over the house, but you never talk about him."

Rory didn't really know much about her grandfather. All she knew was that he died when her dad was very young and that's about it. Her dad never really talked about him much when he was alive but when he did it was always brief.

The topic was always a sore subject in the house for obvious reasons.

"It really never got easier." Adele finally said, "Even after all these years—."

"Is that why you never remarried?"

"There was no one else," Adele said matter-of-factly, "Your grandfather was truly the love of my life. He was a great man. Very family-oriented, very smart, handsome, and caring—Monty was everything you could ask for in a significant other."

"I was about 17 when I met him." Adele started a Dutch braid at the top of Rory's head before she continued, "I was working part-time at this diner, and one day the most handsome, tall, muscular dark-haired man walked in the door and I immediately felt butterflies in my stomach."

"When he came up to the counter to order, I just stood there staring." She let out a genuine laugh, reminiscing the events that occurred. "When I eventually snapped out of it we had a light sarcastic conversation. Swept me right off my feet."

She laughed, "He came in again the next day and gave me his number but I waited a few days to call him as I didn't want to seem too eager."
