The assault on both sides𝗠𝖨𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗟 𝗛𝗔𝗗 been deliberately ignoring Rory for the past three days and she didn't know why. The two had been paired up for a history project that required an extensive amount of research to receive a sufficient grade.
They had been in the Library for a total of twenty minutes and Miguel hadn't spoken a word of anything unrelated to the science project. She had noticed that he wasn't rambling like he usually would, or babbling about random video games that the brunette knew nothing about. He hadn't made any direct eye contact with her either, and when she did try to make small talk or speak of anything trivial to science, Miguel just brushed her off.
Rory didn't know why, but him intentionally ignoring her without reason, made a lump form in the back of her throat. "Miguel," she phoned from her spot next to him over and over again, starting to grow frustrated when he kept talking about the stupid project instead of immersing in some sort of conversation with her.
She angrily snapped his book shut and pulled it away from him, "are you mad at me?" She asked sullenly, "did I do something wrong?"
"Im working on this project with you aren't I." He shook his head, grabbing his textbook back from her hold. She bit the inside of her cheek, "you know that's not what im talking about. If this project wasn't mandatory you wouldn't be speaking to me at all."
"Yeah, well who's fault is that." He mumbled under his breath, clicking his pen and taking notes.
"Excuse me?"
Miguel sighed, dropping his pen and finally making fierce eye contact, "why are you friends with those assholes?"
"What assholes are you referring to?"
Miguel rolled his eyes, "Those jerks who beat me up at the strip, not even a month ago." He said, the veins pulsing on his temple.
"I wouldn't necessarily call them my friends, they're-"
"Well, you sure could have fooled me." He pursed his lips, giving her a fake smile."
"Okay." She scoffed, "you do realize that I can't control what they say or do right?"
"No, but surrounding yourself with people like them makes you just as bad." He shrugged.
Her nostrils flared as she watched him carelessly lecture her nature without truly knowing her, "That's not true."
"Isnt it?" He hummed, "Face it Rory, the people you associate yourself with are awful. They go around terrorizing people who can't defend themselves and then laugh about it like it's some sort of joke." Miguel bit the inside of his cheek, packing his stuff up, "If you can't see how messed up that is, then fine. But to the rest of us, it just proves your lack of judgment and character." He stood up and slung his bookbag over his shoulder, "I better go, you know, because I'm sure you wouldn't want to be seen with a loser like me." Miguel finished, leaving and effectively ending the conversation.
