Chapter 1- First Day At The Nursery

Salem's Pov
It's my first day already? I'm so excited!! I can't believe Marjorie actually managed to get me an apprenticeship at the nursery I have some flowers and chocolates to give her I need to remember to take those. Right what do I wear something casual or smart? My mind was racing I had so much to think about I took a deep breath. Then reached into my cupboard with my eyes closed a pulled out a short but simple dress it's quite similar to my mum's favourite dress. I did always like the black and white flower pattern on it I was debating to put it on your considering I haven't been in contact with my mum for a couple of months now. I didn't have time to pick some else up or I'll be running late after all dad won't drive me to the nursery so I'm walking there. We'll it's more like he can't drive me to the nursery he's wasted. This divorce is really affecting him and it's all my fault. It's like a 40 minute walk from where my dad lives. I was finally dressed, I did a quick spin and smiles. Mum would love to see me in this dress again, I didn't normally wear dresses but I would wear this whenever I was going out with my mum since she did buy it for me. Her little princess she called me before handing this to me. Well this Cinderella needs to hurry up it's almost 11am and I need to be there for 12am oh how ironic 12 o'clock just like Cinderella. I brushed out my long hair and decided I didn't have time to tie it, I grabbed the chocolate and flowers. I shouted bye to my dad and left for the nursery. Roughly 40 minutes I had arrived I walked in and knocked on the office door. Marjorie looked happy to see me "Are you alright my love?" I nodded and handed her the flowers and chocolates. "I'm alright, these are a thank you for getting me the apprenticeship" Marjorie smiled at the simple bouquet of flowers and small box of chocolates. I looked nervously as I couldn't afford anything better. Marjorie hugged me "Always a sweetheart like your mother" I smiled at that comment. "Oh Marjorie about that can people not know I'm related to Char so I don't get special treatment or anything" Marjorie nodded she was confused but respected my wishes. "Of course my love no problem at all I'm sure your mum has told you she is covering some shifts at the sister nursery so your first week will be without your mum here is that alright?" I was more than happy to hear that, as it meant I could settle in meet the staff members before my mum finds out I'm working here. "It slipped my mind if I'm completely honest Marjorie but I'm sure I'll be fine. So who am I working with?" Marjorie placed the flowers and chocolates on her desk and led me to the toddler room. "Normally what we would do is have you shadow someone so you can learn the ropes but for today to mind helping out Carly she is doing an apprenticeship here as well been here quite a while and is your age so it be a good way to settle in, don't you think?" I nodded I was happy to help out anywhere. "No problem I don't mind helping out anywhere" Marjorie smiled and ruffled my hair. "That's the spirit Salem I'll leave you to introduce yourself you got this!" Majorie knew me quite well after all she know my mum for roughly 10 years so of course she remembers I have social anxiety it's best to gently throw me then throwing me in the deep end. I approached Carly as she finished at hand over. "Hi Carly, I'm Salem. I'm a new apprenticeship starting I'm helping you out today if that's alright with you?" Carly smiled "Hello Salem! Marjorie did fill me in you will be helping me today it will be easy with the both of us, love you dress by the way Char who you haven't met yet where's a similar one so you have something in common with one of the staff members how excited" I smiled excited to get this day over and done with. After many hours my shift was over I helped out Carly quite a bit today but it didn't bother me at all I was there to help after all she did this on a daily basis it was only fair I gave her break from nappies, cleaning and other horrible jobs like that. I liked Carly we got along quite well I believe. I wave Carly goodbye and started my long 40 minutes walk home. When I got home I fall onto to my bed and smiled. I actually enjoyed today I think I did alright and I get do it all again tomorrow how exciting.
