Adriana sat frozen, her body tensed with fear as she gazed at the words emblazoned on the wall: "Women's Care Clinic." Each letter seemed to mock her, sending chills down her spine. As she tried to regain her composure, the sound of jingling bells pierced the air, signaling the arrival of another visibly pregnant woman. She watched as the woman gently caressed her large stomach, a mixture of anticipation and worry etched on her face.

She was keenly aware of Rio sitting beside her, his eyes trained curiously on the pregnant woman who made her way to sit in front of the duo before landing on Adriana, who looked visibly nervous.

"What's the problem?"

Adriana jumped, startled by the interruption of silence, tearing her gaze away from the woman, as she finally stole a glance at the man beside her. She only shrugged at the question, glancing down at the filled-in clipboard in her lap.

"Nothing."

"Then why you so nervous?"

Adriana couldn't help but roll her eyes, finally pulling herself back from her thoughts and growing quickly annoyed at Rio's incessant questioning.

"I'm not nervous, just more or less-- uncomfortable. I would've preferred to go to my doctor. Plus, I didn't exactly imagine doing 'this' with you."

"What did you expect? I ain't no deadbeat."

"I'd take a deadbeat over a killer."

"Ouch."

Rio pressed his hand to his chest with a smirk, unlike the ones he usually gave her, a flicker of pain flashing behind his eyes; an emotion that Adriana recognized yet was surprised to see. She felt her heart twist in her chest, her eye falling to her lap in disappointment.

He didn't offer her a response, sparing her one last glance before going back to doing whatever it was he was doing on his phone, leaving the two in silence once again.

"And when was the date of your last period?"

"I don't remember."

"Any idea of when you conceived?"

"No."

Rio glanced up from his phone, brows raised in question as he glanced down at the equally confused doctor. Adriana could see how crazy she must've sounded, but the past few weeks had been a blur and she didn't exactly have time to calculate the dates. Especially since she wasn't sure if she wanted to keep the baby.

"It's been a pretty hectic month-- few months."

"Come on, sweetheart. You remember. Bent you over the desk on your lunch break."
