Adriana threw her keys on the counter, her mind still reeling from the moments before.
"You look exhausted, Mama." Dropping her purse on the floor, Adriana let out a shriek as she absentmindedly reached for her pepper spray. "Whoa, calm down." He let out a chuckle, holding his hands up.
Adriana hesitantly placed the pepper spray on the table, her eyes training on him as he stalked around the kitchen island. He settled right across from her, eyeing her carefully. "Something tells me pepper spray ain't the only weapon you got in here, is it?" Adriana narrowed her eyes, her lips zipped shut.
"No comment?" He chuckled, noticing her frozen state. Adriana found herself studying the tattoo on his neck before her eyes darted to his all-to-familiar ones.
"What are you doing here?" The gangster was surprised by her newfound confidence. It reminded him of the night they first met, but he wasn't going to tell her that. He leaned forward, letting her question hang heavy in the air.
"Y'know, I was surprised when Marco called. He told me he had a friend that needed a favor." He began, chuckling lightly. He rested his elbow on the kitchen counter, eyeing Adriana as if she was prey. Adriana inhaled sharply, mentally cursing Marcos. She should've known better than to trust him, but she always wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt since she was his sister-in-law. Or ex-sister-in-law.
"Now, I don't usually hand out favors like that but he said you were good for it. Y'know, paying me back and all that." He continued, resting his mouth against his hand. He studied Adriana's heavy breaths and shaky hands, deciding to pull back slightly.
"I think my suffering is payment enough." She retorted, narrowing her eyes. His chuckles echoed throughout the nearly empty house, causing shivers down her spine. "My kids are gone, My job is on the line, and a gangster is trying to kill me and my friends." Adriana ranted, her eyes pleading. He clenched his jaw, running his hand down his face.
"That's sad and all, but you owe me. Times two." He held up two fingers, a ghost of a smirk on his face. "I got a special job for you, Mama." He pressed a finger to her chest, trailing it down to the valley of her breast. Adriana's voice got stuck in her throat, her body leaning closer and closer to his. His smirk broadened, noticing her shift in movement.
Adriana snapped out of her trance, reluctantly pulling away from his touch. "What do I need to do?"
She crossed her arms, her bottom lip caught between her teeth. As much as she hated it, she was going to do whatever the gangster wanted so she could get her kids back. Plus, it was only fair seeing as she stole his money, counterfeit, but money nonetheless.
Rio straightened, holding his head high. His tongue swiped across his bottom lip, his brows twisted deep in thought. "I'll let you know." He concluded, heading towards the front door.
His hand hovered over the doorknob, glancing back at the shaken mom leaning over the counter, her head trapped between hands. Shaking his head with a light chuckle, he opened the door and left the suburban home.
