"This was my favorite sangria bowl."
Adriana lifted her head from her hands, peering at Beth from across the room. "Well, it could have been your face." Annie pointed out, accepting the drink from Ruby with a curt nod. Ruby approached Adriana from across the island, also handing her a cup.
"L'chaim."
Annie sighed, clinking her glass with Adriana's and Ruby's. The three girls began to approach the dejected woman, handing her a glass of scotch to hopefully wash away her worries. Beth gladly accepted this, her attention now on the three girls instead of the mess in front of her.
"To life." "Dude."
The four girls downed their drinks, hoping to rid their distress.

"Split four ways, it's two weeks plus overtime," Annie suggested, holding up her phone for the women to see.
A heavy thud caught their attention, confusion etched on Adriana's face. The women all glanced at each other before a look of realization flashed across Adriana's face. "God no." She groaned, letting her arms fall to her side as she started towards the backyard.
Beth, Ruby, and Annie followed after her, matching her hurried pace. Adriana could already tell that man had escaped by the footprints etched in the mud and the lack of struggle that was supposed to shake the treehouse.
Adriana swiftly climbed the ladder, the girls hot on her heels. She was not surprised to find the treehouse empty, opting for a calmer reaction than the three girls.

"Would you go faster?"
"I am going the speed limit."
Adriana rolled her eyes at the girl's bickering, her eyes glued to the moving scene out the window. She was still reliving the moment from earlier in the day, and while she was happy to be alive, she still couldn't help but think about seeing Rio again.
"Then what? We shove him back in the treehouse like Rapunzel?" Adriana lifted her head at Ruby's words, catching her eye through the rearview mirror. "Would you rather kill him?" The trio fell silent at her words, their eyes still scanning the almost empty streets.
"Yo, there he is."
Adriana followed Annie's eyes, finding the man in bondage running down the deserted street. As the car approached, the man picked up his pace but even Adriana could tell he knew his attempts were futile.
