Adriana had thought his threat for days. She hadn't answered her phone nor had she left her home. Beth and Annie had yet come to check on her, but Ruby had been by her house multiple times. She didn't know she was feeling this way but she didn't want to move. She was feeling peaceful yet her mind was chaotic. She was alive, she had lived that night. That night she was nowhere near death but that man was. That night she knew a split second was all it could've for Rio to kill that man if she hadn't answered. She saw her late husband in Rio that night, but that wasn't what rocked her. What scared her was the difference between the two. Rio had morals and Rio had values whilst her husband had no. That little difference was what had attracted Adriana to Rio and that realization is what shook her to her core.
In the shower, the water ran past every crevice and area on her body. That water had gotten cold a long time ago but she couldn't seem to move. She didn't want to be attracted to Rio, she didn't want to be attracted to the life she was once involved in. She didn't want to go back to that life. She had so much to live for and so much to be careful of.
That knock of the door snapped her out of her daze but she made no move to move. The knock this time was heavier but again, she made no move. "Open the door, Adriana, or I'll knock it down."
Rio's voice reverberated throughout the home and echoed into her bathroom causing shivers down her spine. Despite her recent realization, she stepped out of the shower and reached for a towel to wrap around her body. She took a moment in the mirror, gripping the marble counters tightly.
Her hand hovered over the knob, a sense of deja vu rushing over her. She quickly twisted the doorknob, holding the door open. Rio stepped in with a smirk, looking her up and down. He wandered into the living room, then into the kitchen. His eye caught the pamphlet on her island, his eyebrows raised.
"You thinking of moving to Puerto Rico. That's pretty far, mama. How you gonna pay me back if you living all the way there." Adriana stayed silent, fastening the towel around her body. Rio finally took a moment to notice her state, his smile faltering.
"You can't handle it." He murmured, approaching her across the island. His hand reached up to push a curl behind her, but she quickly shrunk away from him. "I don't want to do this anymore. I'll pay you back but you can't come here anymore and you can't play house with me." She seethed, meeting his eye. This time she didn't avoid his gaze, instead stared him straight in his eye.
He gazed at her for a moment, before walking over to the couch and taking a seat with a sigh. "I'm really disappointed in you, I really thought you could handle this life." He sighed, pulling his gun from his back and toying with it a bit. Adriana's breath hitched in her throat, Rio noticed this small movement. He held the gun up with a pout. "Don't worry, mamas. I ain't using this old thing on you."
He paused, patting the seat next to him. "C'mere." He muttered. She obliged, her eyes trained on the gun. He placed the gun in her lap, leaning back against the couch. "Marco told me a bit about your life, y' know. How you got involved in some nasty shit." Adriana tensed up at his words, her hand resting on top of the gun.
"Let's get one thing straight, I'll play house with you or whatever I want until I feel I'm paid back for my troubles. Now you can trust me, I know my boundaries and I sometimes keep my word. But I need to know I can trust you, because I don't want to put a bullet into that pretty little head of yours, Mama."
Trust. Adriana could just about scoff at the word coming out of his mouth. She only nodded, tightening the towel around her body. "That night wasn't about tryna keep you in check, it was about seeing if you could handle the 'business', but its clear shit has changed."
He finally turned to face Adriana, placing his hand on top of hers and making her grip the gun. "Get used to the feeling of a gun in your hand, because you're gonna be feeling it a lot. In the meantime, we're gonna get you used to be a part of my world, baby. Because you're gonna be a part of it a lot more often."
He finally stood up from his seat on the couch, motioning for Adriana to stand up. She stood, the gun still in her clutch. "Your girls are going on a trip for me tomorrow, in the meantime, we're going to be spending a lot more time together." He leaned in to whisper in her ear. "I missed you at our last meeting."
He pulled away, turning to leave the home.
"And don't worry about your kids, they're safe. I ain't gonna touch 'em."
