Chapter 83

As planned, Baoshan set up a space in one of her safe houses. This one was located in a small town just south of Lotus Pier. It just consisted of a couple street venders and one local restaurant. It also had one place to buy clothes and medicine. Otherwise there were maybe just a few housed here. It was a good place to put a safe house as no one would expect it to be there. With a room set, there were also to guards on each side of the safe house. There was even two of them on the roof as this was to protect Wuxian and Wangji.

Jiang Fengmian had received a letter to meet the two at this little safe house. Jiang Fengmian would of course, take the chance to talk to Wuxian at any given opportunity. So once he arrived, Wuxian and Wangji sat with him at a table in the room they were in.

"Sect Leader Jiang, we need to talk about something serious," Wangji said, "you know my sect was recently attacked?"

"I have heard," Jiang Fengmian said, "how is everyone?"

"My brother was captured during the invasion," Wangji stated, "though the invasion was under Jin Guangyao, your wife still had a role in this. She has information on Wei Ying. His weaknesses."

Jiang Fengmian sighed, "I am sorry," he said, "I know that my wife has some issues, but I never expected her envy to run this deep."

"Is it true she took part in my parent's death?" Wuxian asked, "it was said a rogue cultivator killed them, but I know my parents were quite capable people. Not just anyone could take their lives away."

"I had a hunch," Jiang Fengmian said.

"Is that why you felt the urge to find me? You felt guilty that your wife took part in killing my parents so to make up for it, you took me in, knowing that she would treat me as she did," Wuxian said angrily.

"I did not think she would go as far as take it out on you," Jiang Fengmian said.

"Fengmian, either you knew she would do such things and you deliberately brought my grandson into the wolves den or you are just ignorant of your wife's actions," Baoshan interjected. She has been in the room the entire time. Wuxian and Wangji knew this, but Jiang Fengmian did not. He did not pay attention to the woman sitting on the other side of the room. She sat there and just listened for the time being. When she heard Jiang Fengmian say he did not know his wife would take it out on Wuxian, Baoshan felt the need to step in, "You know your wife does not like anything that has to do with my daughter and her husband and you brought a product of theirs into your home. It would only encourage your wife to be more angry."

Jiang Fengmian stared at her. He didn't know what to say. She had hit the nail on the head. Jiang Fengmian knows Madam Yu too well. He knew that she would more than likely take her anger out on Wuxian. Jiang Fengmian just didn't want to admit it.

"I am sorry," He said, "I cannot take back what has happened."

"No, but you can still take action," Baoshan said, "you can start by standing up to her for once. She is currently residing in her former sect in Meishan. Surely you know of this."

Jiang Fengmian hesitated but still nodded, "I suspected that she would go hide there."

"This entire time, while A'Ying and Wangji suffered under her torture, Wangji being poisoned being one of them, and you refused to take any sort of action," Baoshan said, "Yu Ziyuan even brought Jin Guangshan and his bastard son Jin Guangyao into this. While Jin Guangshan is already in captive, Jin Guangyao is still out there, and now he has Wangji's brother as a hostage. This mess could have been avoided if you had just been honest with that wife of yours. She honestly believes that A'Ying is a product of you and my daughter. Dream on, you would never have been good enough for her. At least A'Ying's father left her live freely. If she was with you, she'd be caged within a sect. Why do you think I let her leave my mountain? She does not like being hidden away. She just wants to be free to do as she wants. Wei Changze gave her that."

That was a huge blow to Jiang Fengmian's ego. Having your crush's mother say outright that she does not want someone like you with their daughter is painful to hear. Now that it was said to Jiang Fengmian's face, he was hurt by that blow, "what would you have me do now that all this has happened?" he asked dejectedly.

"Why don't you start by telling us why your wife continues with charade even when A'Ying isn't in her life anymore?" Baoshan asked.

"It probably has to do with what we spoke of," Jiang Fengmian said, "she does not believe me when I tell her A'Xian isn't my son."

"Her love for you is there, but she believes you do not love her back," Baoshan said, "having A'Ying around is just a constant reminder of what you couldn't have. Plus, Yu Ziyuan has always been jealous of my daughter's talents. She probably had that same feeling towards A'Ying, right? A'Ying told me she'd always compare her son with Wuxian. Always berating both of them, saying her son will never surpass A'Ying while A'Ying will always be the perfect disciple in your eyes. You focused your time on A'Ying more, and Yu Ziyuan also did not like that. Correct?"

Jiang Fengmian nodded and sighed, "I can try to confront her, but I do not think it will get anywhere. She won't listen long enough for me to talk."

"I can help with that," Baoshan said, "you come with us to confront her, and we can give you the opportunity to speak to her. You have to know this can't keep going. A'Ying is expecting soon, and he cannot handle any more of this mess."

"I was wanting to mention that but I didn't think it was appropriate at the moment," Jiang Fengmian said, "is this one the son?"

"He is already born," Wuxian said, "these are not him. These are his sisters."

"Two?" Jiang Fengmian asked.

"Yes," Wuxian replied, "so please help us stop her. I do not want anything else to happen to my family."

Jiang Fengmian nodded. If Baoshan was going to help him talk to her, he should take this chance. They needed to confront Yu Ziyuan eventually, and since they know where she is, they can easily set up a plan to take action.
