Airborne

It had been about three weeks since Naruto and Jiraya left to find Tsunade. You had learned from your uncle that Tsunade was one of the three legendary Sanin. She was highly skilled in medical ninjutsu and the elders wanted her to be the next Hokage. Your uncle also said that she could heal Sasuke and Kakashi. 

Speaking of, they still hadn't woken up...it worried you. You visited them both every day between your training sessions with your uncle and your squad. Training kept your mind off of them so more often than not that's what you did. In fact, that's what you were doing now. 

Sumire-sensei had given you and your squad the day off of missions and your uncle was out of town for the day so you wanted to spend your day training. You had been working on your summoning jutsu as well as your smoke release. You could now successfully summon various birds of prey at once for extended periods. You were very proud of yourself but you wanted to go farther...Naruto had told you of how he was able to summon giant toads as well as the king of toads...you wanted to be able to do that with your summoning jutsu. Your uncle had confirmed that there were giant birds of prey you could summon as well as a queen you could summon. Your uncle said her name was Queen Akari and that she was a gigantic red Harpy Eagle. He also said that she had a 50-foot wingspan...

You shuddered at the thought...you could only imagine how big the rest of her was if that was just her wingspan. You wanted to summon her, but first, you wanted to summon a bird big enough to ride. From there you intended to summon multiple birds big enough to ride before transitioning to summoning Queen Akari. It was ambitious but you were determined to do it.

You had been trying to summon a bird big enough to ride for the last three hours but it would seem luck wasn't on your side today. You were beginning to get angry but you pushed through your anger and focused on your chakra. You felt your body tingle with chakra but continued to push deeper until you felt an unfamiliar chakra. It was connected to your chakra but it wasn't yours...maybe it was the chakra of the Firebird inside of you?

You weren't sure but internally pleaded with it to lend you its power. You felt a bit silly but you were desperate. You then felt a sudden surge of chakra within your chest. It was so intense that you instinctively bit your thumb and began forming hand signs.

"Summoning Jutsu!" You shouted, slamming your hands onto the ground.

A large plume of smoke appeared to reveal a Northern Harrier Hawk. The hawk looked around 12 feet tall and had brown feathers with orange and white undertones. A large grin broke across your features at the size of the hawk, it was definitely big enough for you to ride.

"You're perfect!" You chirped with a wide grin causing the hawk to cock its head to the side as it eyed you with a strange look.

"Of course I am, but for what purpose am I perfect?"

You stepped back in shock. None of the other hawks had talked to you...

"Well? I'm waiting." The hawk spoke, once again surprising you with his deep throaty voice.

"Oh um, I-I'm sorry...I'm not used to you guys talking..." You stammered out, causing the hawk's eyes to gleam in amusement as he slowly stalked over to you.

"Of course we can...you need only speak and we will talk..." He spoke as he lowered his head to your height as he reached your form.

He towered over you, swaying as he shuffled his massive wings.

 "I am Kenji."

He then brought his face to yours, tilting his head to the side to take in your features. 

"Why have you summoned me?"

"I am training...I wanted to summon something large enough to ride." You explained as you tried not to shuffle nervously under the bird's gaze. You almost felt like you were his prey even though you summoned him.
