Part 20
Once again, he is broken and cannot even walk like a normal person. Some say that men or boys shouldn't cry—but is it really wrong for a boy who has suffered so much? But what did they know about carrying a corpse in your chest every day? He blames himself for his friend's disappearance. He begged everyone for help, but the world was cruel to him. Now, he sits inside a bathroom stall, eyes closed in exhaustion, dried tears streaking his beautiful face.
Meanwhile, Leeknow enters the bathroom to wash up his face after playing basketball. As he glances into the mirror, he spots Hyunjin slumped in the stall. His reflection shows a heartbreaking sight—one that fills Leeknow with sadness and concern. Anyone who saw Hyunjin like this would ache for him. Leeknow tries to walk away, but his heart won't allow it. Instead, he steps closer.
"Why are you sitting here?" Leeknow's voice was uncharacteristically soft.
Hyunjin didn't even lift his head. "Leave me alone."
Leeknow grabbed his wrist. "Get up. Now."
Hyunjin's eyes flew open—wild, bloodshot He wrenched free with violent force. "What are you doing?!"
"Have you seen yourself?!" Leeknow gestured at the mirror. "You look like a goddamn madman!"
Hyunjin straightened his wrinkled uniform with trembling hands. "That has nothing to do with you."
"It's pathetic!" Leeknow blocked the door. "You're killing yourself over something you can't change!"
A hollow laugh. "I'm satisfied with this." Hyunjin shoved past him—shoulders brushing like a funeral bell's echo.
Leeknow stared at the slammed door. When sorrow becomes a home, even salvation feels like eviction.
Everyone sat in the garden, eating, talking, and laughing—except for Leeknow, whose mind was consumed by thoughts of Hyunjin.
"Where's your mind again, Leeknow?" Lia asked, tilting her head.
"I saw Hyunjin." Leeknow murmured, staring at his untouched food.
"So?" Yeji shrugged, popping a grape in her mouth.
"He seemed to be really broken." Leeknow's fingers tightened around his water bottle.
"So why are you thinking about that?" Yeji raised an eyebrow.
"I don't know, but the sound of his crying hurts me!" Leeknow suddenly slammed his bottle down, making everyone jump.
"He cried!?"Han nearly choked on his drink.
"Yes." Leeknow's voice was barely above a whisper.
"He is not like a normal person to me. He is really very cold and doesn't even talk to anyone!" Bangchan crossed his arms defensively.
"Yes, he is really a cold person. I can't handle him." Han shook his head in agreement.
"I didn't like him the first day I saw him." Lia admitted while playing with her hair.
Suddenly, Bangchan stood up and looked at everyone with a mocking grin.
"My name is... Hwang Hyunjin. Have a nice day, everyone."Bangchan put on an exaggerated polite voice, imitating Hyunjin's introduction.
"And when the teacher said 'wasn't your name Sam?' And he was like 'nooo'..." Han jumped up to imitate Hyunjin's defensive gesture, sending the group into laughter.
But Leeknow suddenly shot up, his chair scraping violently against the ground.
"What are you all talking about? What are you all laughing at now? Do you call yourselves human? Have you seen his situation to laugh? I feel sorry for the little brains of you all!" Leeknow grabbed his jacket and stormed off before anyone could react.
