Part 27
The morning air was still heavy with dawn's silence when Hyunjin stepped out of his room, bag slung over his shoulder. His father's voice cut through the quiet like a blade.
"Where are you going this early without anyone knowing?"
Hyunjin turned slowly, fingers tightening around the strap of his bag "I'm going to see someone."
"Who is that person?"
"My friend." The words left his lips before he could stop them—raw, honest.
A beat of silence. Then, his father's voice, laced with something bitter "So you've found new friends?"
Hyunjin's jaw clenched "Why am I not human too?"
His father's expression darkened "I didn't know you'd find new friends after eight years... after that boy"
The mention of Felix was a punch to the gut. Hyunjin's breath hitched, but he held his ground.
"Oh, but please," his father continued, tone eerily calm, "don't let your new friend be trouble for us like your old one."
The words hung in the air, cruel and careless.
Hyunjin's voice, when he finally spoke, was barely above a whisper "I won't tell you anything, Dad. But know this—one day, you'll go through the same pain as me. Maybe you're already suffering something you won't forgive yourself for until you die."
He turned on his heel before his father could see the tears threatening to spill.
Behind him, the sharp shatter of a coffee cup hitting the floor echoed through the hall. His father stood frozen, the servant rushing in to clean the mess doing nothing to erase the weight of Hyunjin's words.
The sunlight streamed through Leeknow's curtains as he blinked awake, groggily reaching for his phone. The screen glared back at him—8:05 AM—along with a message from Hyunjin:
"Good morning. I wanted to tell you that we are going in my private car."
-Sent at 7:20 AMLeeknow groaned, rubbing his face "Why did that boy wake up so early?!" he muttered, voice thick with sleep.
He dragged himself out of bed, moving through his morning routine with practiced efficiency. Bag packed, shoes on, he stepped outside, the crisp morning air sharpening his senses. Pulling out his phone, he dialed Hyunjin.
"Good morning," Leeknow said, voice still rough with sleep.
"Good morning to you too," Hyunjin replied, tone steady. "Let's get in the car."
As he spotted Hyunjin's sleek black car idling at the curb, Leeknow exhaled. This trip would either be the beginning of something new... or the unraveling of everything they'd carefully built.
And yet, he found himself walking forward anyway.
The sea breeze carried the scent of salt and blooming flowers as Hyunjin stepped out of the car, his eyes widening at the picturesque view of Busan's coastline.
"It's so beautiful here!" Hyunjin breathed, unable to hide his awe.
Leeknow smirked "Of course—because a handsome boy like me was born here."
Hyunjin rolled his eyes but didn't shrug him off. "You're so ugly."
"You say the same thing as Yeji," Leeknow laughed.
Hyunjin's nose scrunched "So I won't say that again."
Leeknow grinned, "I know you hate Yeji. Don't worry—you're both equally annoying. Now, let's go."
