Leeknow's steps faltered as Hyunjin's words hung between them like the mist from their breaths in the cold night air.

"Sometimes mistakes aren't always bad," Hyunjin continued, voice trembling. "They might lead us somewhere... important."

Leeknow turned slowly, the restaurant's neon lights casting shadows across his conflicted expression. "Everyone has a story no one knows," he murmured, though his feet remained planted this time.

Hyunjin's hands clenched at his sides. "Please—" His voice broke. "I've been so alone. For years, there was no one... until you." A tear traced his cheek. "You gave me peace again."

Leeknow's resolve wavered. Against his better judgment, he found himself stepping closer, drawn by the raw pain in Hyunjin's eyes.

"Don't leave me like he did," Hyunjin whispered.

"Like who?" Leeknow's question came out sharper than intended.

Hyunjin swallowed hard, the words trapped in his throat like birds in a cage. When he finally spoke, his voice was barely audible. "Do you really want to know?"

"From the moment we met," Leeknow admitted, gesturing to the patio chairs. As they sat, Hyunjin's hands shook against his knees.

"How does it feel," Hyunjin began, staring at the ground, "when you beg to be believed, but everyone calls you a liar?"

Leeknow's breath hitched as he searched Hyunjin's tormented face. "Why?" he whispered, voice thick with concern, his fingers twitching with the urge to reach out.

Hyunjin's shoulders slumped as if carrying the weight of his memories. His hands trembled violently in his lap, nails digging crescent moons into his palms. "I was just... just a normal kid," he began, voice cracking like thin ice under pressure. A single tear traced the curve of his cheek before he roughly swiped it away. "I loved school, but my father—" His breath came in short, ragged gasps. "He cared more about his stupid reputation than his own son!"

Leeknow's eyes widened, his chest tightening at the raw pain in Hyunjin's voice. Without thinking, he leaned forward, his own hands shaking now.

"Our palace wasn't a home," Hyunjin continued, his voice dropping to a broken whisper. "It was a gilded cage." His breath hitched as the memories flooded back. "One day I finally ran... ran so fast I didn't see the car—" He choked on the words, his entire body trembling. "But an angel saved me." A shuddering sob escaped his lips. "For eight years I wished I'd died that day... until... until you..."

Leeknow's heart shattered at the confession. Tears welled in his eyes, blurring his vision. "Who..." he managed, voice strangled with emotion. "Who was that person?"

A fragile, bittersweet smile flickered across Hyunjin's tear-streaked face. "Felix," he breathed, the name coming out like a prayer. "Lee Felix... my angel."

The air between them grew heavy with unshed tears. Leeknow's throat worked as he struggled to speak. "Where... where is he now?" he finally forced out, dreading the answer.

Hyunjin's breath came in short, panicked bursts. His fingers twisted in his shirt, knuckles bleaching white. "We became... we were..." A broken sound escaped him. "Soulmates." The word hung between them, weighted with years of longing. "My father beat me, locked me away, but we—" His voice broke completely, tears streaming down his face unchecked now. "We never gave up on each other. Until... until that winter..."

Leeknow's hands flew to his mouth, his own tears spilling over as Hyunjin's pain became his own.

"We promised..." Hyunjin continued, his voice barely audible over his shuddering breaths. "Promised to build a snowman at first snowfall." A ragged sob tore from his throat. "But that monster Beol took us instead!" His body convulsed as if reliving the trauma. "Hundreds of kids... all trained to kill... to..." He gagged on the words, his stomach churning with the memories.
