Part 32
As dusk settled over the campsite, the air filled with the comforting crackle of fires and the savory scent of cooking food. Each group worked in harmony—Hyunjin and Leeknow knelt by their firepit, coaxing flames to life, while Yeji and Lia prepped ingredients nearby.
Leeknow squinted at the girls' station, then cupped his hands around his mouth. "Hey! What's taking so long with the food?" His voice carried across the short distance, playful but impatient.
Yeji smirked, elbow-deep in seasoning "It'll be ready when it's ready! , Unless you'd rather eat raw vegetables?"
Leeknow groaned dramatically before turning to Hyunjin. "Think you can handle the fire alone for a bit? I'll be back."
Hyunjin frowned, poking at the embers with a stick. "Where are you—"
But Leeknow was already walking backward, flashing that infuriatingly charming grin. "Soon!"
And with that, he vanished into the gathering dark, leaving Hyunjin to sigh at the fire—and Yeji to wonder just what that troublemaker was up to now.
As the last golden hues of sunset faded into twilight, Yuna huffed in frustration, kneeling before their stubborn pile of firewood.
"Why didn't we get paired with any boys?" she grumbled, prodding the unlit kindling with a stick. "Look at this—I don't even know how to start a fire!"
Ahyeon rolled her eyes, stirring their pot of ingredients. "Yuna, if you complain one more time, I'm throwing you in the lake."
"You shut up!" Yuna shot back, cheeks flushing. "This is all your fault! What are we supposed to do now? Eat raw rice?"
Nearby, hidden in the shadows of the trees, Leeknow bit back a laugh. He'd slipped away under the pretense of "checking on the others," but really, he'd followed the sound of Yuna's adorable whining. Stepping into the firelight, he leaned against a log with practiced casualness.
"Need a hero?"
Yuna startled so badly she nearly toppled backward. "Lee—Leeknow?!" She scrambled to her feet, dusting off her knees "What are you doing here?"
He shrugged, the firelight catching the mischief in his eyes "Just making rounds. Hyunjin mentioned you might..." He gestured to their pathetic fire pit. "Struggle."
"Let me help," Leeknow interrupted, already crouching beside the woodpile. Within seconds, sparks leapt to life under his skilled hands.
Yuna exhaled, shoulders slumping in relief. "Thank you,"
Leeknow's grin widened "You're welcome, little mouse."
And as the flames finally caught, casting warm light over their faces, neither noticed Wobin watching from the darkness, his fists clenched.
Yeji marched over to Hyunjin with a wooden spoon in hand, her brows slightly furrowed. "Where did Leeknow disappear to?" she asked, stepping closer—close enough that Hyunjin could catch the faint scent of herbs clinging to her clothes.
Hyunjin kept his gaze fixed on the fire, though his fingers tightened slightly around the stick he was holding. "I don't know," he answered, voice low.
Yeji huffed, then suddenly lifted the spoon toward him "Here, taste this. Tell me if it needs more salt."
Hyunjin blinked, caught off guard as the spoon hovered near his lips. His eyes flickered between the food and Yeji's expectant expression, hesitation clear in the way his jaw tensed.
