Part 50

Hyunjin's cheek as the boy slowly lowered his trembling fingers. His father's face contorted with rage, spittle flying as he screamed, "How can you change your damn name without my approval?!"

Hyunjin's jaw clenched, his dark eyes flashing with defiance despite the sting. "Why should I tell you while I know you won't let me?" The words came out steady, but his hands shook at his sides.

Mister Hwang's entire body trembled with unrestrained fury. "Damn you! I'll kill you! Worthless!" He raised his hand again, fingers curled like claws.

Hyunjin didn't flinch. He stepped forward, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I'm not afraid of dying. If you want to do it now, do it." His chest rose and fell rapidly, the vein in his temple throbbing.

Yuna threw herself between them, her small frame shaking violently. "Please stop, Dad! Let's talk!" Tears streamed down her face as she pressed against her father's chest.

Mister Hwang grabbed her shoulders roughly, shoving her aside. "Go away, or I'll kill you too!" His voice shattered the air. "You've driven me crazy! You've become a new version of this immoral boy!"

Hyunjin moved lightning-fast, pulling Yuna behind him. "Stay back, Yuna. Let us talk." His grip on her wrist was gentle but firm as he guided her to safety.

Mister Hwang's wild eyes darted between them. "How did you do that?" His voice cracked with hysteria. "Now that the whole of Korea knows, how can I raise my head? What if they investigate your past? Do you know what would happen?"

Hyunjin's lips curled into a bitter smile. "What are you afraid of? Didn't you say you were lying?" His voice grew louder. "Let them investigate! Let's see what happens!"

"Eight years ago I cursed you!" Mister Hwang roared, his face purpling. "I hoped you weren't my son! I thought maybe you'd become a man, but no—you're just a cause of shame to me!"

The words hit like physical blows. Hyunjin's breath hitched. "Am I a cause of shame to you?" His voice broke. "Why didn't you act like a true father? Why didn't help me all these years?" Tears welled in his eyes. "Why didn't you let me tell the police everything so we could have saved Felix?"

"Again, Felix!" Mister Hwang spat the name like poison. "That disaster who ruined you! Turned you into a worse idiot! He was just damn dirty—"

Hyunjin's scream tore through the room. "TALK NICELY ABOUT MY FRIEND!" His entire body shook, fists clenched so tight his nails drew blood.

Mister Hwang smirked cruelly. "Or let's talk about your dead friend who made you worse. Did he tell you to change your name?"

The mention of Leeknow struck like a knife to Hyunjin's chest. His vision blurred with fresh tears—he could still feel the ghost of Leeknow's comforting hand on his shoulder from earlier that day at school.

"I couldn't keep Felix away," Mister Hwang hissed, "but I kept Leeknow from you." His lips curled into a grotesque smile. "I wish he'd died sooner."

"DAD!!!" Hyunjin's shriek made the windows rattle. His eyes burned crimson, veins bulging grotesquely along his neck and hands.

Mister Hwang remained chillingly calm. "What? Yes, I wish he'd died sooner. Maybe then you wouldn't be such a fool."

Hyunjin's voice dropped to a shattered whisper. "What do you know about me? Leeknow was the only one who listened to my pain."

"I don't care," Mister Hwang waved dismissively. "Get out of my house. Never come back." His voice turned venomous. "God knows what He wanted with you and Yuna. First He deceived you, then Yuna. All for money. God did well taking that evil spirit away."
