Part 53

"I will save this world from a criminal like you," Hyunjin whispered, tears dripping onto Jeon's terrified face. "I will kill you."

Jeon Sung threw his head back, laughter spilling from his lips like shattered glass. "Hahaha, Do you actually believe you could fire that gun? You don't have what it takes to kill!"

Hyunjin's fingers trembled around the weapon's grip. Tears streamed down his face, cutting through the dust and sweat, but his voice came out steady. "Why shouldn't I? If you could steal an angel's soul, why can't I claim a devil's?" He dragged his empty hand across his face, smearing tears and grit together.

The gun barrel lifted, unwavering -

Jeon Sung's mocking smile slipped. His breath hitched -

Then - a sickening crunch!

White-hot pain exploded through Hyunjin's skull as something heavy connected with the back of his head. His legs gave out instantly, the floor rising up to meet him in a dizzying rush.

Woosan's voice cut through the ringing in his ears, thick with disgust. "You worthless maggot! How dare you raise a weapon to our master?"

Another brutal impact. Hyunjin's body convulsed, his cheek grinding into the rough carpet. A boot drove into his ribs - once, twice - until the fibers beneath him grew damp and sticky.

His hand fluttered weakly to the base of his skull. Warm wetness coated his fingers. Blood. So much blood.

"Stop, Woosan!" Jeon Sung's command sliced through the air.

Woosan heaved for breath, his entire body shaking with fury. "Why? He was going to shoot you!"

Jeon Sung's cold gaze pinned Hyunjin's broken form to the floor. "Take him to the freezer room. Immediately."

Woosan went rigid. "The freezer room?" His voice cracked with disbelief.

"Make him understand the price of betrayal," Jeon Sung whispered, each word dripping with venom.

Understanding dawned in Woosan's eyes, followed by something darker. Something hungry. "At once, master."

He seized Hyunjin by the collar, dragging his limp body across the floor. Fresh blood painted a grotesque trail behind them, each smear a testament to Hyunjin's fading strength.

Seven police cars, consisting of five police teams, were racing down the road, speeding as fast as possible, sirens blaring and lights flashing in urgency.

Seungmin panicked, gripping the seat. "How long does it take to get there?!"

The police officer breathed heavily, tense. "I think there's about an hour left..."

Seungmin's eyes widened, his voice shaking. "Oh my god! No, no—we have to go faster! Those monsters—"

The police officer clenched the wheel, frustrated. "This is as fast as we can go! Any faster, and we risk crashing!"

Seungmin felt his heart pounding, desperation clawing at him. "Did you call an ambulance?

The officer nodded firmly. "Yes, they're already on their way!"

The cars tore through the city streets like bullets, sunlight glinting off their windshields as panicked voices filled the air. Yeji's entire body trembled violently, her fingernails digging into the leather seats as hot tears blurred her vision. "Dad, faster!" she screamed, her voice cracking with desperation. "They'll kill my Hyunjin—!" Her chest heaved with ragged, uneven breaths, her pulse roaring in her ears.
