Part 52
The sound of Jeon Sung's laughter filled the phone line, dark and mocking. Each chuckle sent a fresh wave of anger through Hyunjin's body. His grip tightened around the phone as his other hand clenched into a fist at his side.
"Didn't you miss me and here?" Jeon Sung taunted, his voice dripping with false sweetness.
"Shut up," Hyunjin snapped through gritted teeth. His eyes darted to the window where wedding guests mingled happily, unaware of the nightmare unfolding inside.
The laughter stopped abruptly. "But I missed you so much," Jeon Sung said, his tone shifting to something deadly serious. "Now either you come here on your feet, or I come there and kill the girl who might be your wife in the future."
Hyunjin's blood ran cold. "Where is Felix?" he demanded, his voice cracking.
"Oh!" Jeon Sung sounded almost giddy. "I really forgot that boy. Thank you for reminding me of him."
Tears burned in Hyunjin's eyes. "What have you done to him?"
"If you want to know," Jeon Sung said slowly, "come here to where you managed to escape 8 years ago."
Hyunjin's mind flooded with dark memories - cold concrete, the scent of fear, Felix's quiet whispers in the night. "How do I know where that place is? Send me the address."
Jeon Sung laughed again. "Wow! So you agreed to come here this easily?"
"Send me the address!" Hyunjin shouted, slamming his fist against the wall.
The line went quiet for a long moment. When Jeon Sung spoke again, his voice was low and dangerous. "I'll send you the address now. But if you tell the police..." He let the threat hang in the air. "It will be very bad for you. Goodbye. See you soon , my Hyunjin "
Hyunjin's knees buckled. He collapsed onto the plush couch in the hallway, his trembling hands raking through his perfectly styled hair. The text message burned against his thigh where his phone rested - that cursed address waiting to be acknowledged. His breath came in short, ragged gasps as if an invisible hand were squeezing his windpipe.
"What should I do?" The question echoed in his skull as he squeezed his eyes shut, trying to block out the impossible choice before him. When he opened them again, the ornate ceiling of the wedding venue blurred through unshed tears. With a shuddering breath, he wiped his face roughly with his sleeve and stood.
Yeji's dressing room door loomed before him like the gateway to both heaven and hell. Hyunjin straightened his tie with numb fingers, forcing his lips into the ghost of a smile that didn't reach his eyes. His knock sounded hollow against the heavy wood.
The door swung open to reveal Yuna's surprised face. "Hyunjin!" Her cheerful greeting died on her lips as she took in his expression.
Inside, Yeji stood abruptly at the sound of his name, her ivory skirts whispering against the carpet. The delicate lace of her veil fluttered with the sudden movement, framing her confused expression like something from a dream.
Hyunjin's voice came out strained. "Isn't anyone else here except you and Yeji?"
Yuna blinked. "No, it's just me and Yeji here! Why are you asking?"
"Please," he said, already stepping forward. "I want to come in." He brushed past Yuna before she could respond, his eyes locking onto Yeji with desperate intensity.
The world narrowed to the vision before him- Yeji stood frozen, her fingers twisting in the delicate fabric of her gown, teeth worrying her lower lip until the pink flesh turned white. When their eyes met, Hyunjin felt the breath leave his body. The fake smile melted into something painfully genuine as he drank in the sight of her - his angel, his heart, the living embodiment of every hope he'd ever dared to harbor.
