Chapter Twenty-Three: To Modernity!

[Flashback]

Asahi, Gen and Kimi stood back watching as Tsukasa poured revival fluid on Hyoga to wake him. Asahi was not looking forward to the family reunion. Hyoga wakes up and Gozan laughs and whacks Hyoga on the back.

"I was thinkin' he was gonna bring back a real badass fighter but this guy looks like a toothpick!" Gozan states.

"Yeah, how'd this shrimpy dude gonna help us anyway?" Another idiot blurts out, looking at Hyoga and moving in his line of sight. He moves his hand towards him and Hyoga jumped back. The goons laughed.

"Fight him and you'll understand." Tsukasa orders, "Why don't you go ahead and spar?"

"Haha. Are you sure? We might end up killin' him. I feel kinda back for the wittle guy." A third guy states.

"He may still be sleepy after his long nap!" A fourth idiot, Morito states. The goons laugh again.

"I don't mind." Hyoga's voice responds.

"Oh, yeah?" Gozan demands.

"Idiots." Asahi sighed out. Kimi looks at Asahi.

"Asahi." Hyoga states with full disgust in his voice before looking at Tsukasa, "If I'm allowed to use my preferred weapon, I'll gladly take on ten men by myself."

"Huh." Gozan responds before laughing again, "Well, it's too late for you to back out now!" He attacks, fast and with his fist raised. Hyoga easily takes all the guys down and Kimi stares watching in disbelief. She lets out a shaky breath in shock. Gen laughs and pretends not to be scared himself. He stood partially in front of Kimi to protect her.

"My, what impressive ills-skay." Gen mutters.

"Yup, that's my brother. He's a monster in his own way." Asahi mutters as he looks to the side with an unreadable expression.

'I guess I'm not the only one with a monster-like brother.' Kimi's thoughts say.

"Heh. I apologize. Seems there weren't enough men for a proper warm-up spar after your rest." Tsukasa states.

"It's not really a matter of numbers. The only proper fighter here, by which I mean, the only one I wouldn't want to fight... is you. You're the 'strongest primate high schooler,' Shishio Tsukasa, after all." Hyoga explains. Tsukasa holds out his hand and Hyoga takes it.

"I'm glad you've joined us." Tsukasa explains, "Let me show you around our new world." Tsukasa, Hyoga and Gen wander away. Kimi and Asahi wandered after them. They approach the main area and nearby, Chiyo was hanging from a tree branch where her childhood friend was taking a nap in the tree. Her childhood friend was a former SDF Navy Submarine Sonar Operator. His ears were about as good as Chiyo's. He'd done his job because as good as her hearing was, the Navy wouldn't take her because of her constant tumors. She jumps down and wanders away. He watches her go from his hat.

"As you see, nature's bounty is generous. We want for nothing. The world was like this for ages. Well before human civilization. It belonged to no one. However, from the moment you and I were born, the old world hammered a message into our heads. 'This world is not yours, because there's not a single square centimeter of land on it that isn't already the property of some rich old fool'." Tsukasa monologues. The voice of news reporter Minami fills the air.

"Yeah, it's true. I worked myself ragged, day in and day out, only to give up most of my money to someone else as rent. Looking back on it, that's just slavery." Minami explains.

"The privileged elders were ruthlessly exploiting the impoverished young. The old world worked by theft and rampant corruption." Tsukasa explains.

"I'm a lot happier now in this new world." Minami explains. Minami giggles.
