Taylor, Blake and I were getting brunch. Taylor was in New York and said it was urgent to see us both. So here we were. "Spill," I said after all finally got our food and had small talk.
"Joe and I broke up," Taylor said.
I nearly choked as I took a sip of water. Blake gasped beside me, reaching out to grab my arm as we sat side by side in a booth across from the pop star. "Wait. What? When? Why?" Blake questioned her then.
"A few days ago. That's why I'm in New York. Left him and everything in London," Taylor sighed. "It just became too much. His episodes and the sadness suffocating us both. He was miserable and he wanted me to be too. I just couldn't do it anymore. We were running in place and I was dying there. Six years with no future? I deserved more."
"Six years," Blake frowned.
"But didn't you guys talk about marriage?" I asked her then, confused. I knew she wanted to marry Joe and she said he brought the idea up often, so much so they had it planned out in their heads. So I was... bewildered.
"Like three years ago. Seriously. And then it became what if, one day, I'm not ready. How does someone become unready?" Taylor complained.
"If anyone understands, it's me," I said. "I waited a long time before I found my mister right. Love isn't always enough. And six years is a long time to wait around."
